How Much Impact Did One Less Day of Prep Make?

I know I'm probably grasping at straws, but I'm really trying to come up with an explanation for why our O-Line was so ineffective against SC State. How much of an impact would a shortened week last week make?

I'm going with the delusional rationale of a combo of sandbagging on purpose because we can and the coaching staff knows it, along with the old adage of playing up to or down to your competition.

Both are probably not what's happening, but it will keep me sane for another week.

Also, no has said this but our time management with "Air" Noland and play calling was atrocious. The way we used him was an insult to him. If you're going to put him in there then you trust him somewhat to run an offense. And if you trust him that much you can whisper in his ear "No deep shots down the field. We're not trying to score here, but other than that, we're going to turn you lose." - We had timeouts to burn and it was a real game. Let the kid throw it around some. See what he can do. Calling running plays to watch him hand off was beyond stupid. JMHO.

I would hate to take the position that the reason we weren't able to dominate SC State was due to one less day of prep.
Can you imagine the response on here if Clemson was using the same talking points if they were under the same circumstances ?

Thinking 2 and 1/2 hrs of sitting around waiting after getting hyped up for the game had something to do with it.
Heck, it impacted my ability to watch. :D

I assume this was probably a factor as far as our mental readiness. When you have games like that, it’s inevitable the players come out flat. That we were playing an uninspiring opponent only adds to it. I believe we have a host of other issues to deal with, But I think that was probably a lesser factor.

Agreed. They weren’t as excited after the LONG delay. I would not be hitting the panic button yet!! I am concerned about all the injuries, we’re they due to the long wait or wet field conditions??

I agree with this 100%. "Insult" was the word I was thinking of at the time as well. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seemed to me that his body language indicated he was thinking the same thing. I was hoping we'd get to see him throw it around a bit. It's not like we were sitting on 63 points or something.

I hope so. I hope our OL is merely bad. But after one less day of prep and losing their edge after 2 1/2 hours of sitting around doing nothing, our normally bad OL played like the worst OL in the history of P4 football. Maybe next week, they'll be merely bad.

This is most likely - and coming out flat led to some injuries we didn't need. Kilgore will be missed if he is out Saturday.
