How much of what we saw is correctable in a week?

Please, save the "nothing can be fixed because croom sucks so bad" responses, that's already been said enough. Seriously, of the reasons we lost the game, from horrible ST to playing the wrong QB in the 4th quarter to not sticking with the run against a weaker team to just coming out flat, what can be fixed in a week?

Keeping his best friend Woody & letting Ellis leave & then hiring a DC within will be the end of the road for one Sylvester Croom.

One-QB system - check
Let Richards 17-ing kick the football - check in principal, reason for mysterious absence remains to be seen
Stop fumbling kicks - check

Don't change the game plan just because you're behind by 2 points and the other team has momentum - um...get back to me on this one

......see a better team out there Saturday? Were talking about SE La. here. As I see it, the only possible thing we can take from this next game is whether or not this team truly does suck. That would be a legitimate conclusion if they struggle to win this game, or don't win by a lot. If they do win in a dominating fashion, then I think it leaves us all in limbo until they play Auburn.

Which means we're screwed. It's not like the problems we saw on Saturday are new problems. We've had those problems for years now. What are the chances this would be the week they get corrected?

I'm not saying we would have been perfect and certainly there would have been some things to work out.

What I don't get is all the praise heaped on Woodrow on TV. They should display the rankings of his offensive units over the years on the screen while the camera is on him. And we all know how he's been a magnificent quarterbacks coach.

apparently hid an injury. When it came time to kickoff, they told him to get out there and he said he was hurt - it caught everybody by surprise, including Carlson.

McCorvey has been doing this **** the whole time he has been at State. He goes away from what's working. Just like in the liberty bowl. In the 1st qtr, we were gaining 6 and 7 ypc against UCF. Then you throw in 2 BS pass plays from McCorvey and we are punting. This happened on every possession in the 1st qtr. Add in last Sat. 3 out of our 4 1st drives, we move the ball, by throwing short passes and running the ball. 2nd half, we go into throwing the ball down field, which I think everyone agrees is not our strong point. Look at Wes's ints. They were all because he was throwing down field. The guy is very accurate 15 yards and in. Beyond that, you get bad throws and ints. Again, McCorvey going away from what's working. That's why I think he is a dumbass. Croom can mutter all the ******** he wants about 9 in the box. Spread the field dumbass and do what you were doing on the 1st 4 possessions. If they correct this, then I think we can still have a successful season(6 wins and a bowl game), but unfortunately, I just don't think our coaching staff is smart enough or capable of doing this.

including the awful blitz pick up. Pegues will be returning kicks so a huge problem is solved. Its not difficult to kick the ball in bounds on a kick off and frankly that may have been the play of the game. I think we'll see Dixon get the carries he should be getting. And I think we'll see someone else get a shot at punting. And we'll only play one QB. There are major problems I saw that Im not sure can be fixed--- the run blocking (big problem), the fact that Marcus Washington may still have to start at corner, and the pass rush.

I have hope that even our staff can see that it needs to stick to what led to 80+ and 90+ yard TD drives. I think the question is whether or not we showed weaknesses that can't be fixed b/c we simply don't have the personell.

I was being more of a smart ***, because Woody hasn't shown that he will correct anything. But I figured that was apparent when I put what they could do to correct it. I'll admit I was woolly after the 1st qtr, because the offense actually looked good. I guess that's what I get for being woolly.

My take after watching the game in person, talking to players, and visiting with coaches.

Saturday's loss comes down to a lack of focus! Plain and simple. State didn't take the game seriously and got smoked. It falls on the shoulders of both the players and coaches for not being ready to hit LA Tech in the mouth.

So... virtually everything we saw last week is correctable. If they come out with an attack attitude they will be fine. If they think they can walk through this one... it will be close.

Over time... Mississippi State plays to to the level of the competition way too often. I don't know why this is the case... but State doesn't pound the "little guys" as often as they should. I don't expect that to be the case this weekend...

Primarily in the wrong direction. In football at least, we never seem to play "up."

that Croom and these 4th and 5th year players could work so damn hard to get us going in the right direction for 4 years only to start year 5 with a lack of focus--a lack of focus that found its way even into our travel plans.

..play football and compete. I remember a guy named Bunky Kaeton having a lot of talent but not a lot of want to.

State may have taken this game lightly coming into it. However, Tech went ahead mid-way through the 3rd quarter. The players had to know at that point they were in for a game. There was enough time to get down to business and win if that was the case.

We lost because the offense is terrible and Pegues wasn't there to field punts. Which both are correctable, but only the punt returns will actually get corrected.

...by staying on the ground and winning 8 games. Here's to hoping we can do the same thing this year.

the fact that even without focus, we STILL had numerous chances to put the game away. We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

It was corrected, because Henig was broken in half and we were FORCED to stay on the ground. I honestly think we would have had a losing season last year if not for Henig getting injured.

...I heard something At The Bin last night, which I could barely believe, but upon second look actually made me think happened. 1. We over simplified the offense thinking ahead to Auburn, then we couldn't pull our asses out of the darkness long enough to run plays we knew when we had too in the 4th quarter. 2. We never thought we would turn the ball over 5 times against La Tech, even though we had people playing at key positions which had never seen the field in those positions before. 3. We let our defense get tired running back and forth on and off the field. That loss belongs squarely on the shoulder of the coaches, something I am also getting tired of. Our coaches took La Tech lightly and that got passed on in attitude to the players. I am also hearing that one of the staff at the Athletic Department didn't make reservations in time for the team to fly there the day before instead of the day of the game, so they actually could have a little while to acquaint themselves with the unique artificial turf. The team needs 80 rooms, and by the time Greg Byrne got there, no one had made them.

In short, I think we will be dead serious this weekend, from the coaches on down.
