How often do you drink?

I'm drinking at the moment, but for purely medicinal reasons. I took a hydrocodone for actual pain and thought I should intensify the effect. Feeling better but will need the other half and two more beers before the pain is gone.

There has been more than one study examining this effect. One that I saw a year or two ago was a regression analysis that controlled for just about everything imaginable - income, health, prior alcoholism, age, gender, race, etc. - and still found that people who drink 1-2 drinks per day of beer, wine, or liquor have lower mortality rates than heavy drinkers or non drinkers.

I don't doubt that. Seriously, my larger point was that if you think something is doing you good, keep on doing it. Belief, conviction and attitude go a long damn way. No study on that one, though.

I also liked the cocktail hour-networking-business class factor. Thought that was interesting.

Hold on. This just in: smoking crack helps offset Parkinsons.

Typically go through a 6 pack during the week March - October. Starting in the cooler months I'll switch to brown water, particularly on college football Saturday's.

Used to average probably a 24-pack a week, have cut back steadily as the years go by. I'm 50 now. I probably average about a 6-pack a week now, if that. Rarely ever drink anything harder than beer. I can't handle it like I once could, so I cut way back in order to keep from quitting altogether. Still like to get together with the "bros" every now and then for a couple beers at Happy Hour.

I know I'm a weirdo but I don't really "get" casual drinking. If I'm drinking, I'm partying or at least trying to catch a good buzz, letting loose. I don't understand just having a couple drinks. Never have. I'd rather drink water all night than have 3 beers.

...which is why I never drink during the week and why I'll hardly ever drink as I get older.

I'm glad someone agrees with me. I've held this view forever, but we are few and far between.

yea... I'm never gonna sit in my den and watch tv sipping on a beer for an hour. If I'm drinking, I'm downing that bastard as quick as I can (relatively, 3-5 minutes tops) and getting another until I feel that euphoric buzz. I may slow down then, but that's the goal.

Oh, so you're into casual binge drinking. That's still cool, right?

Some people actually enjoy the taste of beer and aren't necessarily concerned with getting shitbombed every time they have one.

I'm more of a weekend/let's get hammered kind of drinker, but I have been known to drink 2 or 3 on a random weeknight. Just enough to catch a decent buzz but still be able to function in the morning and go to work.

I don't mean to be "wait 'till you have kids guy", or anything, but, man, wait till you have kids. After the hour long bedtime process a cold beer and a recliner go a long way.

Anyone's sleep pattern suck with age and drinking? That's one reason I have slowed down. I keep waking up dry mouthed and I never feel fully rested the next day.

Yes, same here, especially if drinking a lot. No more hangovers since the strokes in early 2009, but instead feel a bit uneasy, even paranoid the day after. Based on what I've read, such feelings occur with many folks after much alcohol consumption.

And the 3 or 4 after that first one are great too.

Go to a restaurant with kids, get home past bedtime, finally get them to sleep. Man that cold beer is the best one you've ever had, every time.

No joke. Kids are fantastic, but they suck to get to bed. You should hear some of the excuses they come up with as to why they need a glass of water, a different light on, a different blanket after the lights go off. Nothing like a cold one after they fall asleep.

I only drink on the weekends anymore. The magic marker is just too hard to get off before work.

Sounds like mild withdrawal symptoms.

Over 3 years later.

Just curious if anyone's drinking habits have changed.

I'm still hanging in as a weekend warrior. Down a 12 pack every Friday and Saturday.

Still a cheapass. Still just at home. I’ve actually backed off a little bit too. Maybe only twice a month now. With a kid driving now, I feel like I need to be sober most nights, just in case.

I’m sure it will pass.

Either Friday or Saturday nights, only at home. Nothing against public drinking, I'm just a cheapass.

<- - - - Between 4-12 craft beers every Friday and Saturday. Drink more during football and basketball seasons. I've really cut down on Beer Thursdays after work with colleagues. Usually join them once a month rather than every week. Drink lots while on vacation. By the way, I'll visit Middlesboro area beginning November 17. Pappy's, here I come.

Hmmmm. Have something most every day.

Probably have 700ml of wine 4-5 nights per week over 4-5 hours. DW has other 50ml.

The other nights have something else. Like tonight had margarita with 1.5 shots cheap tequila & then one beer.

Rarely straight beer. 2-20oz drafts my limit if we go out.

4-6 crafts followed by 8-10 coors light. Thur, fri, sat only. Usually by 12 crafts and 30 coors Thursday after work. Also enjoy a Scooby snack or two in there somewhere but only when I drink. This is all in a 7-10 hour window.
Very rarely drink during the week.

Had a couple oz's of bourbon last night on the back porch. Beautiful night btw. Deer's eating and crapping in the yard. A 6-point buck acting cocky also.

First drink since Last Friday night at Unsung Brewery in Anaheim. A very cool place with solid beers!

Very seldom. A glass of wine for dinner every now and then. A beer or two at the lake in summer.

Spent way too many years in my 20s, 30s and 40s over-consuming beer. Then went 12 years without a drop of anything. For the last year or so I’ve enjoyed red wine on weekend evenings. Two glasses most every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
