How telling are the South Alabama coach's comments on Sidney?

"They're a very explosive team, especially without Sidney in there. They're much quicker."

"I was sort of hoping he (Sidney) would play"

We certainly weren't the best team I've seen today (particularly on the defensive end), but the level of energy and movement in every phase of the game was like night and day compared to Wednesday night. Sidney should ride the bench the rest of the year. I don't care if he doesn't play another minute. Moultrie had 25 points and 12 rebounds (I think), Lewis had good minutes, we got good cuts down low which led to good looks on the perimeter. Our guard play was much better and our ball movement was much better. Sidney's fat *** should do nothing more than hold the bench down the rest of the season.

I'm not a huge Sidney fan but I listened to the USA stream for the game and heard the postgame show with their announcer. The coach said that "it was disappointing that with their best player injured we didn't play better"... I didn't hear him say what you quoted, but I also was probably half listening to the post-game. Or was your comment from the press conference?

I thought we were better last year without Sidney in the game (see Tennessee game) because that team was built to run and score in transition. When Sidney is in the game it is basically 4 on 5 in transition, because he can't run the floor with any consistency. Wendell Lewis is an animal getting up and down the floor. One of the fastest big men I have seen. I wish he had more basketball skill, because if he did, he would be a sick player. Anyway, team definitely played with more energy. Deville Smith is going to give us another dimension. That dude is super fast. Once him and Hood get acclimated to our system, we should be a tough out. We need Sidney for depth if nothing else. We don't have the post depth to survive if Sidney isn't on the team.

We would have definitely been better off without him last year, and so far this year the only game we've covered the spread in is the one he didn't play.</div>
