So proud of my eagles today!

I hope someone on here can tell me how to heck i get to omaha flying wise without paying a fortune. 1 and 2 stop flights going all over the country for $600 and taking up 8 hours counting layovers is not really my idea of a realistic option.

I live in hattiesburg and i would like to fly out of Jackson or New Orleans, maybe gulfport even. I checked some flights but going all the way to denver or minneapolis just to get to omaha is ridiculous.

Where would be the closest major airport that you can think of to help me out? I am hoping someone who went to omaha when you guys went could help me out. Thanks in advance and go eagles!

He might sell you his tickets. He booked a trip when they lost 2 out of 3 to us. Oh and Congratulations.

with gas prices it's just as expensive, but you wouldn't have to deal with the layovers. Driving really did suck though.

to Sioux Falls, SD for less than $300. You would have to rent a car and then drive approximately 4 hours.

Edited after quick atlas check. 180 miles from Sioux Falls to Omaha, all on I-29, so more like 2.5-3 hours. I have no idea if you can get the flight for that, though. He did have a layover in St. Louis.

I was going to suggest rail, but that is not really an option. Too bad the rail service in this country blows

with gas prices now at $2.90 a gallon, my car holds 17 gallons. i can get about 450 miles slap full tank on interstate at about 28-30 mpg. Its 960 miles from Hattiesburg to Omaha, checked on google maps. so thats about 2 full tanks x 2 for the round trip. $48 for a tank = 96 one way = $192, lets round it off to $200 in gas round trip, not counting if there is anydriving around omaha between games.

the tickets are going to be $20 a game so thats not a big deal. the problem is time. It takes a long time to drive 960 miles one way and people still have to work. Thats where flying comes in but if it takes 10 hours to fly to omaha with layovers i dont see much difference than driving...

we did it in 2 days from jackson. on the way we stopped in kansas city. on the way back we stopped in st. louis. it would suck to have done it straight, but that's probably the way to go if you're looking to save money. omaha is a cool place. the zoo is right next to the stadium, and it's great. i'm saying that as a 24 year old. it's worth seeing.

i knew some people who lived there, and they gave us the warren buffet restaurant tour. i don't remember the names of the places, but they were good. up stream (i think that's the name) is a bar/brewery there, and it's worth going to as well.

and so little civilization between the two. I was very relieved to be out of Iowa when we got back to Omaha after driving through it while waiting for game 2 against Louisville.

...if not, go there. There are signs for it along the interstate for miles. It is ridiculous. Imagine downtown Starkville and every store is the same store. I can't even explain it. They have a chapel, mining for gold, giant T-rex in the backyard, anything you can imagine. It kind freaked me out at the time, but then again I kinda <17>ed up when I went there.

Iowa is my ancestral homeland, so I know of what I speak. Des Moines is 135 miles east of Omaha. See if there's any cheap flights there, in addition to the other choices mentioned on this thread.

As a student, I drove to Omaha twice. From Starkville, it was 12 hours. I left around 4pm and drove through the night. Only real traffic to deal with was in Memphis. Kansas City was a ghost town at 1am. It is an easy drive when nobody is on the road.

It was pricey, but since I was covering it for the paper and the boss paid for the whole trip, it didn't cost me anything.

You may want to check with your local paper and tell them you are going, that you would be glad to cover the games and send a story, photos back if they will foot at least half the bill.

Only thing I really remember is the quick-draw anamitronic gun slinger, ala Nat. Lampoon's Vacation.

If you are from Jackson, you could leave at 6 AM, and you can blow through Memphis and get to St. Louis at about 2 or 3 o'clock, then Kansas City is four hours from there, and I know that I-55/I-70 usually isn't too bad as far as congestion- unless you are trying to get downtown in St. Louis. That puts you in KC at about 6 or 7PM, which probably wouldn't be that bad at that time as far as traffic. Then you can get to Omaha in about three hours per mapquest, which would be 10 o'clock. Add in two hours for meals and that would be 12 AM.

Not a bad drive and I did not do the trip in one shot. Stayed overnight just over the Arkansas line, then drove on up
thru St Louis and Kansas City. That 200 mile trip from KC to Omaha straight north is boring as heck.

I took my sticks and played golf the days we did not play. Awesome trip.
My advice is find a way to get up there and go.
