How would you feel about a non-conference game in Jackson?

The worst arguement thread got me to thinking about it.

OK, let me lay out the scenario- a non-conference road game against, let's say Troy or La Tech gets bought out by some group in Jackson and they move the game to Jackson to the Vet.

Would you go? And how would you feel about it?

Under no circumstances would we or should we ever move a home game to Jackson unless there was a natural disaster in Starkville and Scott Field is damaged to the point where it is unsafe.

Personally, I would be kind of excited about it. Mainly because it would be my hometown, and I'm not sure that it would sell out completely, but there would be a great crowd.

Getting there shouldn't be too bad. I'd just need to remember not to approach it from the east.

cost the city of Starkville that revenue?
Buying a non-conference away game to play it in Jackson could only be a positive. I would love to see it. I wish there were a local Jackson group that could make it happen. I think the last time it happened with us or Ole Miss was Ole Miss vs. VCU in '96. I don't know if the current economic realities make that kind of thing feasible. It would be fun if we could pull it off.

reading comprehension was required for some of you at State. He said that it would not be to replace a game in Starkville. His scenario was if one of the non-conf games that were to be played ON THE ROAD, were bought and paid for to bring as an economic tool to Jackson. I know it's actually been kicked around before.

I'd be fine playing a game in Jackson as long as it didn't take a home game from Starkville. 7 on campus, 1 in Jackson and the other 4 on the road would be hard to argue. Example, this past weekend, UAB drew just barely enough to warm the hotdogs up. If Jackson had a group of businessmen that "bought" that game from UAB, there would have been far more in attnendance in Jackson obviously and it becomes essentially a home game for State.

And to answer the question, I'd go, but only if the frats were allowed to wear bowties and saddlebucks.

Edited to add Faustdog beat me to the reply button.

In that case, I'm all for someone in Jackson buying out a road game and playing it at the Vet.

One of the best things State ever did, was moving all of the home games to Campus.

I'd rather us pay to have one of these non-conference games moved to Starkville, assuming there was this kind of money to throw around.

Now if the Golden Buzzards want to move their State game to Jackson, then maybe...

I don't know how much a Sun Belt school makes off of a home game against us. It would have to exceed whatever they would make in ticket sales and concessions and etc.

And then they would have to deal with the people that run the Vet as well as JSU because we would have to make sure that they don't have a game scheduled, or we would have to schedule the game around their game.

I'm sure whomever would jack the ticket price up because they want to make some money off of this venture.

I have been to La Tech and MTSU when we played them. You would think that having a SEC team would cause them to have a larger crowd than they typically are used to, and that probably is the case when we do play them. But even then, those teams still don't come close to selling out the game.

But if it could, sure why not. We'd bring a ton more fans there than we ever could to a true away game. I just don't see anyone ever doing this, seems like if a team would be willing to lose their home game, we would pay more to get it to Starkville than Jackson could pay.

is that it is close to UMC, St. Dominic's and Baptist Hospitals where you can get emergency treatment after being jacked by one or many of the enterprising denizens of Jacktown.

Cash and a share of ticket sales or something for them not to have it on their campus. It's doable but I don't know how much you would have to throw at them.

Kidding. I would much prefer to play in Jackson. We'd obviously up our chances of winning by essentially playing a home game, even if Jackson is a pretty crappy place for a game.

I would not go. I hate games in Jackson.

There...

I read the Todd's statement. I answered it accordingly. I would not attend a game in Jackson, unless maybe USM moved its home game there.

Maybe State should build a monument to Larry Templeton's "accomplishments." The leadership of tomorrow needs to know how NOT to do it.

But who would do it,and with what money? After the fiasco that was a Saint's per-season game, I just don't see anyone other than JSU and High School teams playing in Jackson ever again....

From here forward we should have 7 home games - regardless. Stricklin has said that, LT has been railed for our 6 home games this year.

Seems like there is a rule against playing 7 true home games and 1 neutral site game, but I could be wrong. Even still, would I go? Maybe, but there is basically no chance of that ever happening.

Hell, you could play 12 home games if you wanted to and could get them. You're right we should have 7 home games every year from here on out, and we do through at least 2017. We can't afford to have 8home games and the best way for us to get 7 is to do some 2-for-1 deals. If someone in Jackson wants to buy out the 1 road game in those deals, I'd much rather play Troy in Jackson than in Troy. As for the feasibility of it, I would think it would be very feasible. You could sell 50,000 tickets at $40 each in Jackson vs. maybe 25,000 tickets at $30 each in Troy.

Can't be much worse than going to UAB. Plus, it'd give me a reason to visit Jackson & hang out with old friends living there. As long as it doesn't preventus from having 7 home games or screw up our schedule at some point down the road... I'd be all for it.

I wish we would just go ahead and schedule Tulane permanently. It's a OOC road game I'd always look forward to...

I am NOT a 17'ing idiot, douchebag.

I would not go to a road game that had been relocated to Jackson.

Let me try this again (Good Gracious!)

After the condition was set forth, the questions were:
Would you go?

I have no desire to go to any relocated, by way of purchase, non conference away, meaning not originally scheduled as home, game, played at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, in Jackson, MS.

The primary condition, in which I would possibly consider going to a game in Jackson, was USM's Home game versus Mississippi State. I did not imply Mississippi State's home game, versus USM.

And how would you feel about it?

Going to a college football game at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, in Jackson, MS, would in no doubt be an inferior experience...
