We are 5-2. We have the 4th best conference record in the entire SEC.

Now let's be real. Do we have a good team?

Well, we don't have a BAD team for sure. We're better than last year. I think we are better than mediocre. But I wouldn't say we are good yet.

I think we're capable of being good. We've yet to play a complete game and we'd be good if we did that. After all, that's what most good teams do.

With enough talent, one can be good without playing a complete game (LSU, Auburn). We certainly aren't at that level.

4th best in the best conference in the country is qualified as at a minimum "good".

bull. Another bite at either of those and we win one if not both. Sorry if my respons seems wooly, but both of those teams lived off our mistakes.

My take? we are just a bit better than good. We are chick fil a good. Two more wins and we can be considered better, but we need to beat the ever loving hell out of both and yes, that means Kentucky.

Want to be top 15 good which is borderline outstanding? beat Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Want to be contenter good? Gotta beat Bama. along with those other two.

So good we already are.

...I feel great about this team...until I come to this board & read all the weird ********.

The way State is playing, & given the rest of the schedule is vs. teams not on par with LSU & Auburn (yes, I even include Bama), I would not be suprised that if State can remain healthy, they just might run the table.

Ironcially, I see the biggest hurdle as UAB...MSU will not be up for a mid-tier C-USA team after beating UF. It's just human nature. MSU willjust have to find a way to win Sat.

Having said that, I literally can't stomach the ignorant ******** I read here as the MSU football program begins to grow better & more competitive.

Of course, without HD6 around to weed out the idiocy, it's just going to get worse.

You don't beat Georgia and Florida without being good. You don't get ranked in the AP, ESPN, BCS, and computer polls without being good. We've still got room for improvement, and I think we will improve over the next few years, but you can't say we don't have a good team right now. I'm not expecting us to win out like bi-polar Ronnie does, but I think we've got a real good chance at an 8-4 season, which with our schedule isdamn good.

We absolutely do not have the talent of the teams we've either beaten or barely lost too. You can talk about how stars in recruiting don't matter, but in the end, more of them end of being really solid contributors than the ones that don't. Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and LSU out-recruit the pants off of us every year, and we would gladly trade classes with them.

With that being said, we beat 2 of the teams I mentioned, should have beaten one, and for indian burial ground reasons we didn't do so hot against LSU. Our staff is getting everything and more out of every player that steps on that field for us, and are getting them to compete against some of the more prestigious teams in college football. We do have talent on the team, but our staff deserves most of the credit for where we are at this moment. We are playing to our strengths and reaping the benefits, and there are quite a few teams out there that don'thave that.

..in my mouth manically depressed patdog: I said if State remains healthy (a huge if), I would not be surprised if MSU wins out. Provided if they beat UAB.

You overlooked at least2 caveats, but what the hell. This is sixpackspeak.com, so let it roll.

Nice try thought.

I'd say that's a hell of an accomplishment being a road game, even if UF is "down".

We're a solid team. It's okay to accept that.

I really don't care who you play. We need to get a little more play action going and we can beat anybody left on the schedule with the way we run the ball. I'm predicting a 4-1 finish and some nice bowl festivities.............

I think we are getting there....there's hasn't been a constant outstanding player on this years team ,though I think Relf and a couple of other players can be that every game. But it seems that every game has a different player that stands out. I remember the days of sleepy Robinson , Eric moulds, Daniel Boyd...or defensive back Kelvin Knight ... This players would always stick out in my mind because they were always fun to watch. I felt so good about the early years of Jackie's teams I didn't mind talking trash(which is always fun)....but I haven't talked trash in over 10 years.simply because being let down so many times..... though we are 5-2, I am not quite ready to talk trash , we still have to many problems and still haven't played a complete game... I do feel we could upset another team like Bama or Arkansas before the end of the year. I am looking forward to next year...especially if we finish strong cause I am ready to talk some trash again.

I don't think anyone can argue that we are actually "on-track" .... I also think this team has surprised most of us, we are still considered a work in progress but our expectations suddenly have gone through the roof ... we are on-schedule, but I don't think we are way ahead of schedule

I think both of those teams, particularly Auburn, are much better teams today than they were when we played them. Auburn had not yet figured out just how good Cam is, and LSU just started out the season really struggling. Those teams are better than MSU.

I'm not sure how good MSU is. Georgia, Florida and Houston are not nearly as good as we thought they would be at the beginning of the season, but its still a big deal to win those games. I have been highly critical of the defense, yet they played a great game against Florida and I will give them a lot of credit for that.

I still think State is only mediocre in a generally down year for the SEC. On the other hand, I am looking forward to watching the rest of the season.

If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that Houston would be down to their 3rd QB, UGA would be without Green, and UF's offense would be ranked below 100th, then I wouldn't be surprised at where we are. Given that info, we've beaten who we should have beaten. We've beaten the mediocre teams as well.

We've come close, but we've yet to upset anybody. Not that I'm complaining. I think one good upset per season is good. And we've got room to make that happen against Bama or Arkansas.

I'm thankful to be 5-2 at this point but the match-ups the rest of the way are daunting...<div>
</div><div>McElroy, Mallett & Masoli...those are three good quarterbacks and except for Cam Newton, the most talented ones on our schedule.</div><div>
</div><div>We've played well, but our secondary hasn't faced a solid passing offense yet (Brantley, Murray, Jefferson/Lee, Houston's 3rd string QB, etc.).</div><div>
</div><div>Our blitz-happy scheme has worked well so far, but I'd be lying if I said I was confident that success would continue against superior QBs. </div>

At thebeginningof year, I put our over/under on wins at 6.5. I think 8 wins is awesome. <div>
</div><div>My only let down has been the D-Line.I'm not saying they are bad, I was just expecting more because of all the hype. Run stopping has been fine, but it seem like we can't pressure the QBconsistently.</div><div>
<div>I wonder if we lose 2 more games, if we will still be ranked at the end of the season? Something tells me "No".<div>
</div><div>Either way, between winnin' and recrootin', I feel a lot momentum for next year.</div></div> </div>

Their last win was coming off 10 days rest. They are not much better than Memphis.

Houston is a mid-level CUSA team.

How much did you lay on us +7 last week then? If that wasn't an upset you had to think it was free money, right?

Just because UF isn't winning the SEC this year doesn't mean us winning there isn't an upset. If you don't think it was an upset then you can't say we're not a good team.

I am feeling good. A helluva lot better than post-game LSU. We have a good team. LSU is just a physical football team and our strengths played to their strengths.

However......what Rogue and klerush said. Their is no question that our strength is running the ball. Everyone knows this including the teams left on our schedule. When I look at UKs, Arks, and OMs defense I feel good about our chances. But I still feel, even though we ran the ball 20 something straight times vs UF and still won, we still need to develop a little bit of a passing game. We are going to have to be a little more successful throwing to keep defenses somewhat honest. Otherewise, OM, UK, and Ark will just load the box and we don't need for those guys to shut us down. Because, we will need more than one offensive TD in those games.

Which brings me to defense. I have a ton of confidence in Manny Diaz. While, I am concerned about what the offense of UK, Ark, and OM can do. I have confidence Diaz will make the correct adjustments to keep us in those games. It will just be a matter of us limiting mistakes on offense and controling the ball and clock........and again sticking more than one in the endzone.

I will tell you this.......if feels good to be in late October and knowing we have a shot to finish strong.

Offense: A little disappointed where we are. Ballard is what I expected but nothing more (I was wooly on him). I was hoping the passing game would be further along. I'd like to see what would have happened against Auburn had we tried the UF game plan. If Ballard had rolled up 120 on Au, I'd probably feel a lot better. Regardless, I actually think we're on the right track and by no means behind schedule, I was just hoping we'd make a real jump.

Defense: Much happier. I was actually worried about Diaz; I worried we would be a break, not bend offense. Glad to have been proven so wrong. Also pumped that pretty much every game I expect our half time adjustments to be better than the other team's.

Special teams: Disappointed. Only facet of the game where I think we're actually behind schedule.

Overall, we're in line with my high but reasonable expectations before the season started. I think if we come out and win big against UAB and win beat UK and UM, with one of the wins being convincing (10 points or more; game not in doubt), I'll think we're ahead of schedule.

In general, I expect the wool on this board to be sheared a bit. I don't think our offense can keep up with Arkansas (just think it's a bad matchup, not that they're much, much better than State)and I don't think our offense will be able to move the ball much at all on Bama. We pull an upset on one of those teams and I will think Dan's turn around job has been freakishly quick, as opposed to the quickest you could reasonably expect a very good coach to turn around the Slytanic.

Yes he's a damn good receiver. They still should have better athletes than us at every position. We have UGA leftovers at LB.

For one thing any one receiver isn't THAT much of a difference maker. And it's not like the tall white guy didn't unexpectedly step up and play really well at that position.</p>

W - uab, uk, om
L - bama
games we need to find a way to win:
Ark

the wins are there for the taking. we have an 8-4 team right now, who knows if they maximize their potential down the stretch

I hope they go 10-2, bamas d will be a huge challenge, then it is on the road
I can see us 9-3 ... it they play the same game against ark, like they did vs. uf and it is at home
No reason to be worst than 8-4, right now
