How'd We Do Against Tennessee?

Well, you didn't actually tell me, but that's splitting hairs. I don't think it's much of a rivalry. They consistently beat our asses.

They do and it sucks. Kentucky won a game in the fairly recent past. If they can do it again in 1-2 more tries, it will start it back up again. Just gotta keep chipping away at it.

You'll see a rivalry the likes of which UK-UL will never reach. If for any other reason than a lot more people care about UT than they do about UL.

Fair enough.

I don't care for the Vols very much, but I give credit where credit is due. UT was very close to playing for the SEC championship this year, in fact they were very close to being 12-0 heading into that game. I don't think you will disagree you should have won the UF, OU, Arky, games and was one stop away from beating Bama. Lost those first 3, 2 with double digit leads in the 4th quarter I can't remember about the Arky game and Bama went ahead with less than 5min to go. So UT could very well have been 12-0 playing OM in the SEC championship game for a spot in the playoffs. Dobbs is a dangerous qb, not so much with his passing, but his ability to pull it down and run with it. UT will be a big favorite to win the East this year and barring injury to Dobbs I don't see anyone in the East beating them, Bama with a new qb could be beatable too. But the negative part is I don't think Butch is a great game day coach, he wasted half a year of Dobb's eligibility trying to RS him, great recruiter and motivator but very average on the field coach. But UT will be tough to deal with as long as Dobbs is healthy this year and I expect them to represent the East against whoever comes over from the West, could be OM's year to break the drought.

Don't disagree at all with "what could of been". My real concern is was it the coaching, or was it a deal where the players honestly haven't been there before and choked? You're opinion is usually spot on and I'd like to hear what you think.

I've noticed that Kentucky fans respect Tennessee, it's programs, it's history, it's current trajectory much more, if there aren't actually Tennessee fans present when they're discussing it.

This in particular is one hell of a troll job:

"Bama, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Mich. St. Mich, LSU, Ole Miss, Clemson, FSU, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Ok, .......and I could name 5 more...you are a nice mid major type bowl team..."

Sure, name 5 more. I'd like to see where you're going with this.

I'm not going to lie, in the past Tennessee hasn't exactly had a great reputation, especially under Fulmer's last several years of recruiting thugs but I believe that Butch has done a good job of changing the culture of what was the last 15 years at Tennessee. It's impossible to manage 120 student athletes and you're always gonna have a few that screw up, you just hope it doesn't embarrass the university. Fulmer's last several year, Kiffin then Dooley let them run wild over here and it was an embarrassment.

Alabama and Georgia have free Scout boards. And active ones too.

Go to Swamp Gas, a free and active Gator board.

Pretty sure all 3 have open 247 boards as well.

I'm sure they'll be happy to talk to you about Tennessee football.

Thanks for this info. I've never been apart of scout and didn't know they had free boards.

There were close in some games....but it is like the old Vol coach Johnny Majors once said.....That if, "ifs and buts were candy and nuts it would always be a Merry Christmas."

Nothing no truer than that, If Arky hadnt pulled off that crazy lateral play against OM, OM would have won the West and played UF in the SEC championship game this year and Bama would likely have not made the playoffs. Don't see how they could have put a non division winner in the playoffs.

I already told you why. Kentucky will always be Tennessee's biggest rival. Our states just have too much in common. Unfortunately, they've owned us for forever.

If we can start winning regularly again, this will be nothing.

I gotta disagree with this. I grew up in Tennessee. Have generations of family and friends in Tennessee. I was even a mild fan of UT growing up. If you ask any UT fan, alumni, player, coach, etc, who their rivals are they will say Bama, Florida, Georgia. They will even say Vandy because they're in state before Kentucky crosses their mind. When you ask about the rivalry with the Barrel, they just laugh and say it doesn't really mean anything. When I moved to Kentucky UT and UL is all anyone wants to talk about. It was alarming.

As much as the states border and have some similarities, it's just not a rivalry. I would love it to be but its not.

Tennessee makes one stop at uf and om stops that lateral play it would have been Tennessee vs. Ole Miss for SEC

The OU and UF games I think falls on the coaching staff, I think the offense got a little too conservative and tried not to lose instead of playing to win and didn't give the offense a chance to put a couple of first downs together to seal the win. I really don't remember how close the Arky game was so I don't know. The Bama game I think Bama's edge in depth and talent just took over late in the game, nothing Butch and crew could dial up to stop them and the players just ran out of gas and were half step slower, maybe less and weren't able to make the plays they were making earlier in the game. I think UT probably played their best game of the year against Bama both from a coaching standpoint and gameplan and the players did a great job of executing it.

Nobody is even close to Alabama and no Tennessee fan feels that way.

We are a traditional power and even you must see we are coming back.

We were a sec championship game away for playing for nc in 2001

Hate on lol
Ok I admit that UT might be pretty damn good in the coming years. But did you seriously just call UT a traditional power? I don't think anyone outside of knoxville feels this way. Nuh uh just absolutely no way do logical people think of UT as a traditional power in football. I'm kind of shocked that UT fans even have the nerve to call themselves a traditional power. That's just craziness to me, huge difference in UT and the actual traditional powers in football. Not even comparable. Silliest post I've read in awhile.

We are second only to Alabama in SEC titles.

You must have started watching in 2001 or so

Unfortunately, so do I. That's why I know how big this rivalry was and would still be again.

I agree. UK's biggest rival is UL.

They are. They are 12th in total wins all time and 14th all time in claimed championships.

I don't think it ever was much of a rivalry. Kentucky was only competitive for about a decade in the early 1900's and the Bear yrs. outside of that I don't even know why there was a trophy for it. UT has won ~%80 of the games since they've started playing. I think it could be a really good rivalry but I don't think it really ever was.

I can assure that it was. People used to ride the train or bus back and forth in droves from Lexington to Knoxville and vice versa to get to the games. There was a reason the Beer Barrell was made. Google that rivalry. There's several sites dedicated to the rivalry, including a wiki page and even a UT fan sponsored site.

So....it's reasonable to degrade UT since our most recent national title was 18 years ago. And it's also reasonable to say that UT/UK is a rivalry even though it hasn't been since.....when?
