My tune has never changed. No one is getting that coaching spot over Lee. I hope we pay him enough to stay on for the long haulI thought the consensus in May was that Thomas Gilman sucks for actions as a 20 year old. Six months goes by so fast.
I knew you guys would love the new and improved version. He is a great coach. You're lucky to have him, and he will be a hot commodity some day. If OSU makes great strides, I would expect Iowa to interview him along with Spencer in 2029.

There begins the DT coaching tree and the network to improve OSU too. Like say Oregon brings back Wrestling and TG takes that job. The high level kids that he brings up will go to Oregon or OSU. There’s a window there that puts talent in our doorstep.
Wrestling has to grow and more depth in parity has to occur or it will die.
Wrestling won't be added at any power 5 schools anytime soon with revenue sharing happening. Some Big 10 schools will be cutting wrestling scholarships next year . Wisconsin and Michigan st will be at 5 from 9.9.

I understand that. If wrestling is added as a D1 sport it will be at smaller schools. Wrestling is in trouble as are many Olympic sports . Olympic sports will become club sports at many universities which will suck

That’s not the point. The point is, the product can’t continue being diluted.
Neither of them are going to Iowa, they have a failing RTC and are losing ground. Unless they paid them an amount they couldn't refuse they aren't going to Iowa. Even then, I don't think either of these boys are putting money as their top decision. They are going to make plenty wherever they go and throughout their career but being in a program that can help get them to the top and keep them there is what's going to pay the bills in the long run.
but it is the point. There is less and less money for Olympic sports like wrestling. west2east just stated that Wisky and Mich are lowering scholarships. Like everything in life, it's a money issue. We might end up with schools only paying for coaching, while NIL and fan donations pay the freight for the wrestlers. PSU is already heading in that direction. I posted something a couple months ago about it but it was ignored, but it is the future. We are headed for lean times in the sport due to the excesses in other sports. A fact of life.
We are saying the same thing, I’m just being a little more proactive in my thoughts.
If Wrestling were to get more mainstream, it’ll be more difficult to damage.
It would be nice if people like Dana White would financially support the "minor leagues" of his business.

Crazy Mich is cutting scholarships. Even Wisconsin, though they have had a lack of support for years for wrestling. I could see Oklahoma doing that. Great history, great location, but no school support. It’s a shame for sure

But how would he do that? Wouldn't it be better if the NFL supported college football then the football revenue could support minor sports? Of course neither has a chance of happening.
He does not promote the athletes that wrestle predominantly.
Unfortunately DW fights tooth and nail to avoid pay raises to his “major league” guys, so I don’t think he’ll be endowing a wrestling program anytime soon. That TRT gets expensive!
I believe the endowments come from a fund called forever badger which is a fund for all sports not just wrestling. Wisconsin wrestling will be at 5 scholarships is the what I'm being told.

Could this lead to the formation of the remaining 32ish teams forming a super league just for wrestling. That would inject money (flo or espn to have the rights) into those schools.
And Bono makes about 300k year and is signed until after 2029 NCAAs. Buying him out won't be cheap. And with revenue sharing no one will be buying out wrestling coaches
I don't see it happening soon, possibly can see Iowa one day if they really swallow their pride but that wouldn't be until 2029 and it would require Spencer to really not want to coach. DT also obviously has the resources to pay Thomas like a HC without the administrative work.

Yeah, the onus of scholarship offers is being put on raising funds.
Which honestly, isn’t a bad idea. But, when things get tight, it’s easy to hurt a non-revenue sport.
Wrestling is in trouble.
I heard the flo guys talking about Iron Man this weekend and they said the number 1 match they were hoping for was 138 Blase against Vega. They indicated if Vega wins, that would make the Cowboys the number 1 class for 2025. They indicated the 2 classes were close between Penn. St. and the Cowboys. Penn St. class was seen as highest quality and Oklahoma State had better depth. Blase and Duke are rated 1 and 2 in the class while we had 3 in the top 6. Of course, they had the number 1 class last year with great quality and depth. Therefore, they would want top quality in 2025, and they are going for top quality in 2026(competing directly with us for 1 and 2 recruits in 2026).
