What's funny is that I'm glad he's going to Iowa rather than OSU. Iowa is this big and bad brand yet no one fears them.

Well yeah because if he cops to the Iowa offer being far and away the biggest, it really hurts the “Jesus and wrestling” brand he has. I realize that comes across as much more cynical than I mean it to, but it’s how I see it. I wouldn’t and won’t begrudge the kid for taking the biggest payday because ultimately he’s going to be a stud wherever he goes and will elevate the program, even though I’ll hate that it’s Iowa and not OSU. It’s just a fact that a lot of what he does is brand/image conscious (which is fine, especially in the NIL era), and saying “Oh yeah training opportunities were all roughly equal but Iowa is gonna pay me more than TNT are making” doesn’t fit that image and therefore he isn’t going to lean on that.

You need to quit projecting negative light on typed words. You are completely glossing over the fact that I think they are very good people.
If you honestly think that the offers are the same, fine, leave it there. It is clear to me and okay for me to believe that Iowa is not the best place for him and for me to believe he believes his Wrestling career would be better at another spot. For him not to believe the same is odd to me. Therefor, the rumors of money have to be the variable in his decision by my use of common sense.
I don't make a habit of poormouthing anybody (mostly) that have a relationship with OSU and I am not poormouthing Bo. I am 100% stating what I ascertain as common sense that he is being told to create a narrative that the offers are the same. Not many of us are at the table with them and we in fact, do NOT know the specs.
Leave this spat here...the Bassett family is a class family. I just won't root for him in Black and yellow and I believe the adults (from Iowa) have told him how to make this look. I also believe, his offer could be distorted to be called a similar offer. At the end of the day, they are going to do what they feel is best for them. It just sucks that the ugly part of NCAA sports is getting so much airtime.
I checked on the Iowa forum and many of their people are afraid that we hit the double bonanza which would be Ross and Bassett. I hope that they are right, and I hope Bo is thinking I want to be a big part of the Program that takes down the King.

It’s Iowa for Bo. Everyone with a shred of credibility has already basically called it.
The double bonanza can still be Jax and Ross (I’ve always been higher on Jax anyway)

just what it is in this day and age. Unless Iowa is going to ship him off to Kazakhstan to train 6 months a year, it’s a no brainer to go with the best financial offer.
I hope they are wrong, but I would rather him go to Iowa than Penn. St. Penn. St. is close to unbeatable now they don't need to hammer another nail into the coffin of anyone being able to even compete with them.

Nobody on this board has claimed that we aren't paying our wrestlers. We are not paying stupid money for them. In my opinion, anything over a million dollars a year for any athlete qualifies as stupid money.
Maybe Ayala really gets pissed off this time and finds another program.
Maybe he's seen the contract which I highly doubt. You posted earlier about the deal including Melvin. If that's the case and the # is 5 million simple math says they each get 2.5 . If that's true did Bo really get 5 ?
Because Cael & Co. run a tight-*** ship, while Iowa, on the other hand, not so much? Remember the mole hunt their staff and superfans went on a couple years back? Around the time of the Swafford-Kemerer controversy, I think.
I generally agree if there’s a material $$$ difference. If they are in the same ballpark, other considerations take higher priority.
For example, would I leave where I live (Austin, Tx), uproot my family, leave my social network, etc for NYC for a 30% raise - no. Would I leave for a 70% raise - maybe; would I leave for more - most likely.
For young athletes, they have less entanglements, of course, but the analysis still applies. We’ve already seen sad cases of truly greedy college athletes leaving for “better” deals totally screwing themselves. And unless NIL is better regulated, these “sad” stories will continue.
In much the same vein, as a PSU fan, I’d rather he go to Iowa over the Cowboys because DT and his team represent a far bigger threat than the meatheads running Iowa.

100% agree and that caveat is how they’re getting by with saying it was close imo. They problem is that MM is along ways away from truly being part of that nil deal so while you may want to say it’s for the basset family it’s really 5 mill to Bo because he’s the only one they can make the deal with

That is the thing. It isn't bags of money at most places and I don't know that it is at Iowa, but it has been made out that it is...I truly don't know.
But, there is money there that the school (s) know nothing about. There are packages (car, house, money, etc.) being solicited to Wrestlers and those are the numbers that are talked about. Oh, a $50,000 truck that is on a school lease program...let's call it a $50k addition to the package.
By the way, plenty of people hate PSU. Iowa is just easier to hate.

Listen I hope it’s not coming off that I’m bashing Bo or the family. They are free to do as they please. The only think he’s done that can even remotely be criticized is say what he said on Flo yesterday. It was silly and I guess I don’t differentiate between misleading, being disingenuous and being dishonest.
They paid him for him and his brother or brothers at 625k/per and the deal can only be made for Bo. The other two won’t even be on campus for most of this deal and if Iowa is serious about getting MM they’ll be renegotiating at a new market rate by then anyway… they can say what they want but this is all for Bo with some placeholder good will thrown in.

Bo is spinning the numbers for sure. That doesn't mean he is being dishonest, lying or a bad person. I've actually always been incredibly impressed with Bo and how he handles himself.
Depends how you define "hurts". The fact of the matter is that Iowa has to overpay any kid with options to wrestle under that leadership. Without NIL, that roster would be pathetic.

Kid is getting paid. his tuition (40k a year) is likely a part of any # being floated. Might even add in other bennies too like a car, but I think the people who are so certain its not a million a year should not be so certain. ANd if its not us, I too am glad its Iowa and I sure hope we pick up Jax. Also still have 6 other top 10 guys available, and 4 more between 10-20 for class of 2026.
Bo lives 90 minutes from State College. It's possible that Penn State is offering less. But factoring in the additional travel costs for Bo and his family, the numbers are similar.
Heck on the poll someone ran on the Penn State board I checked that I hope it's Iowa if not Penn State.
Iowa is the known commodity, I can quantify their (vast) limitations. Please let him to there if not State College.

Bingo. The current roster plus future recruits are going to want to be paid too which is why there is an incentive to downplay the NIL offer.
If you spent enough time I have trolling Bob, you'd know that guy will overspend for anyone to be the big shot to help the Hawks compete with Penn State. It was always so fun to toy with him on their board because you could just tell how much he hated his Hawks weren't the top dog. Hell, he had to scrub alot of his posts because of how bad he carried himself and looked like a baby. He was told to because his name was going on the wall at the new facility. He'd deny it but it's truth...
I'm done posting on this subject. It's pointless talking #s when nobody knows and people throwing out #s say they don't really know. It's how things go now everyone makes up whatever they want . Hope everyone tunes in and watches Bo make his decision on FLO at 7pm ET ( that's when the dual starts).
