Has to be one of the most regrettable parting of ways ever. They’ve been wandering in the desert since.

I clearly remember thinking at the time that they just let a ridiculously over ambitious AD try to make a name for himself by running off a very good, very loyal HC. Idiotic.

I know this sounds risky- but if I was southern miss I would think hard about hiring Columbia High School head coach, Chip Bilderback. His wife is the women’s basketball coach at USM, and he’s coached junior college level. He wouldn’t be the norm but he’s familiar with recruiting and also his wife is too. He’s been successful where ever he’s been and sacrificed for his wife’s career. Here’s the biggest thing- if he’s successful he’d never leave.

I'll be shocked if they don't try Hugh Freeze
Holy shít. That actually makes soooooo much sense.

I mean, I’d bet a lot of money that it happens within 3 days….unless his health situation has gotten worse.

He’s a USM alum, nobody else wants him, definitely would be the biggest name in the Sun Belt, and I’d presume that he’d be a hit with donors and recruits.

It'd be a great hire for them, so it's not Freeze.

But we cant fire a bad coach without giving him 4 years because it would look bad. **
Yeah we've got to let him cut his teeth and learn to be a coach while we suffer through horrible seasons while paying him $4M a year

They don't make em like Jeff Bower anymore.
I was living in Hattiesburg when they fired him and thought they were dumb as Hell to do that. The guy was loyal to them and won games, even through changes in the recruiting footprint. Every coach they've had since has not really done anything there that Bower didn't accomplish aside from Fedora who promptly bailed.

I really hate it for them - they were such reasonable fans back in the 90s when we wouldn't play them********
