Huggins style is archaic

  • When they do what Huggins tells them to do, it works. This is a very, very young team. Inconsistent. First half against Kansas Oscar has a double double in the FIRST HALF. Then no one could make a floor shot in the 2nd half. Something like 20%. Guy that killed Ohio State couldn’t make a bucket to save his soul.

EVERY player on this team is inconsistent, highs and lows. Again, very, very young team.

Coaching is all about guessing who has the hot hand, the good moves for the game being played. With this inconsistent, young team, it’s like trying to get myriad moving targets to cross paths.

As for free throws. It’s mindset. Make ‘em in the gym in practice, miss ‘em doing the game. Did you notice how many free throws were missed by Kansas, which has been to the rodeo many times? They are easy to make in the gym, or when you’re posting on this forum. Not so much when you’re breathing hard and sweating profusely. No excuse, though. Other players make 70% or more. WVU players should, too, every game. But they’re 18 to 22, when you can’t trust them driving a car, with a girl, with anything, much less on a basketball court.

When Oscar was a non-factor against Ohio State, the deep bench saved the game. THAT is WVU’s strongsuit: depth. I like the way Huggins runs in wave after wave of replacements so that no one is exhausted … except our opponents.

Have you counted the number of freshmen and sophomores who are saving game after game? The problem is that we don’t know, and our opponents don’t know, which players will be hot and aggressive and effective for a given game. Again, they are very, very young. So this team should get better and better and be a force to reckon with in March Madness and maybe even in the Big 12. Have you noticed that we lost by 2 to St. John’s with the help of a phantom foul call with 5 seconds left and that we had Kansas, which is a God in Phog, trailing WVU for most of the game, by as many as 10 points?

This team has a ton of young potential, and if it doesn’t work out it will NOT be because of Huggins. His resume is impeccable.

Huggins Heroes will prevail in the long run. They already were thisclose to being undefeated. They played #2 and #3, beat #2 and scared the poop out of #3 in their sanctuary. My alma mater will be fine. Just enjoy the run. I certainly will.

CFE, is this a young team? You told us a gazillion times.

Huggs can’t shoot for these guys. At some point you have to embrace that the essence of winning a basketball game still comes down to scoring more than your opponent.

Essentially this season will either be an early NCAA exit or a deep run. If we get 2 consistent outside shooters by the time the tourney starts then we will roll. No one has the interior defense WVU has.

If we can’t get a couple of these kids to shoot better, then we are screwed.

That’s it. Overthinking unnecessary.

Nope..

Wrong clown boi. If we beat Kansas your miserable life doesn't change - you arent anymore special. You are just a guy who had his favorite team win a game, that is all.

Don't ever drown in a creek.
I will pray for you. You obviously are a miserable little man who takes out his frustrations on others. Please don't beat your wife, kick your dog or yell at the neighbor's children for being on your lawn. The rest of will enjoy a glorious ride with Huggins Heroes and be happier and healthier than you. You have my sympathy. It must be miserable to be you. Let's talk WVU sports and how much we love our Mountaineers.

No coach making that much should ever be ok with his team shooting FTs this poorly and going 8 minutes every game without a basket.

Then blame refs for a loss when it was called dead even.

I'm sorry but I will be glad for a change one day from hack and bump, double team and hack, throw it into the post and hope for the best, brick FTs, go 8 minutes without scoring, blame the refs.

This has been the WVU basketball program the last 13 years other than 1 season.

It's like watching a NBA franchise that isn't good enough to win a championship but doesn't do bad enough to get a franchise player in the draft. They just float around the middle of the first round and never improve.

Yeah, you're a better coach than Huggs.

That style of play might just be what can get you over the hump this year. There's no clear cut favorite, and as we've seen, anybody is beatable on any given night, so this year's madness stacks up to be wide open, with probably 20 teams that could go all the way. As usual, it will be all about individual game match ups, and require a little luck, and a few good bounces.

Amazing how the best 10 year period of WVU basketball in the last half of a century is being shat all over by general malcontents. I'm not saying Huggins above reproach or criticism, but I can tell when posts are from a place of replacing Huggins as though there isn't a much greater probability of getting an inferior coach than upgrade. Lest we forget the OP also implied that WVU should move on from Brown in football after 1/2 a season.

They lost their cool playing in a pretty tough road environment, that's all (imo). Kansas hasn't had the same level of team that they had say 10 years ago but they still win a ridiculous percentage of their home games even with those less than teams. On their return trip, I think we beat them in Morgantown by 5-8 points and by that time, we will have had some significant road tests which is where the rubber hits the road for this group. I still believe they are a tournament team although more likely to be between a 3-5 seed than the #1 that was projected a few days ago. Regardless, this bunch is so much better than last year's trainwreck so I'm just enjoying the games for what they are - games.

Huggins took this team from last year to now --a #16 ranked team going to play the #3 team in the nation on their home court. We lost a pretty close game. It must really suck to be mad and whiny about that lol.

You can't praise him for the progress made since last season without criticizing him for that last season.

14-point victory over Oklahoma State was WVU's ugliest game of the season. The 2 teams missed THIRTY SEVEN 3's attempts!!! Never seen that before. But the Huggins Heroes Pitbull Defense is the best in the nation. Nearly every team WVU plays scores fewer points than its season average. Now if we can get the right mindset to make free throws and even shots from the field, keep up our awesome rebounding, this very, very young team could have a season for the ages in the Big 12 and, please God, March Madness. I can't wait for the Texas Tech game, which will be a Himilayan mountain to climb, on Saturday!!!!

WVU defense superior to TTU defense. The stats back that up.[/QUOTE
My eyeball test, based only on the Baylor-TT game tonight (small sample, I know), is that Huggins Heroes' Pitbull Defense is better but I wouldn't diss the Red Raider defense. It's strong, too. TT, WVU and Baylor probably have the best 3 defenses in the Big 12.

We'll both be smarter after Saturday's 6 p.m. game in Morgantown between TT and WVU.
I can't wait!!!!
