mainly talking the SEC slate... not Omaha arms...

I am guessing there were some below average SEC arms out there in the 80's compared to today but I am willing to be proven dead wrong
I wonder how much film and analytics and body armor they had in 1985. I think looking at pitching and hitting stats over the years the two sides have improved talent wise at an equal pace. The only exceptions would be where technology stepped in during the gorilla ball and dead ball phases of College Baseball.

ETA - They definitely would have struggled against that guantlet of SEC arms we saw last night.

Not to mention how David Kellum referred to pedestrian 2 yard gains by Dulymus McAllister as "ANOTHER ALL-AMERICAN RUN BY DUECE MCALLISTER!"
God I remember growing up hearing him say stuff like that. 'OH MY GOD WHAT A RUN BY DOU INNOCENT!!! HE STUCK HIS HELMET IN THERE TO DRIVE AHEAD FOR THE REBELS!"

Then, "Let's see what the Rebs can do now on 2nd and 9".

Why do we have such haters as fans? Congrats to Hunter. Awesome accomplishment!
It truly is amazing. Hunter is obviously a flawed player but he’s still accomplished something that only the truly elite guys in our program’s history have accomplished (probably with an extra year - not sure if Bruce played 4 years or not).

I’ll add, he is a hell of a defensive first baseman too. I am truly appreciative of that after watching others attempt this year.

Bottom of the ninth, two outs. Down one with a runner on first. Which current Diamond Dawg do you want at bat?

I said at the beginning of this season he would pass everyone. Both those pitches were outside corner. I just wish he would wake up to that. He would have done this in 3 seasons. I still congratulate him on the accomplishment.
Yes, when the pitcher threw inside strikes he just watched them go by. If he swings it handcuffs him. At least one was a breaking ball.

For those that need to hear this: No one is saying Hines is as good as Clark or Palmeiro. At the same time, hitting 67 home runs in four seasons is quite the accomplishment, considering no other player who played four seasons at State has done it. And a lot of players have had the opportunity.

Something else that can be said: Hines' record may never be broken simply because playing four years at one school is becoming increasingly rare. So the fact that he hit 67 home runs while wearing our colors for four years should be celebrated without qualification.
He's also tied with active players for the most career home runs. He's also made a lot of tough plays at 1st. I wouldn't trade him.

Would be interesting to know how much higher his BA would have been if the shift was not allowed, not to mention how many more RBI he would have...congrats to him. He also became a great defender at 1B!

Frei or Reese. Probably lean Reese, but Frei can handle the bat and should've been in the lineup all year.

That being said, he does also strike out a lot... and I played ball, so I know.**

You made me wonder who leads that career category so I just went back and checked MSU all time record for strikeouts in a career, in the link below it was 224 held by David Hayman in '93-'96. I then added up hailstate.com stats for the last 4 years, and the leader now appears unofficially to be Hunter with 248 through last nights game.

This for sure, he has made some great digs over there through the last 3 seasons that have saved some big outs and eventually runs too.

Curious to know how the pitching faced was, on average, for Clark and Palmeiro during the 80's?

I am going to go out on a limb and say the stuff Hines is seeing, on average, is much better pitching.
I can name a few major league pitchers that T&L faced like Roger Clemons and Calvin Schiraldi. I know I faced a few in my days just before T&L. Guarantee they were better than anyone Mizzou threw. I watch almost all the games and the pitching is not any better than what we faced in the 80s.

That Texas pitching staff in 83 was unreal. Clemens, Shiraldi, Bruce Ruffin & Mike Capel. Just too much pitching depth for us in a 6-team regional.
