No I am North of Pasco. The picture is Pine Island North of Hernando Beach and Bayport. I have a cousin in Ft Meyers and she and the family are in a shelter. Her house is probably a total loss. I think her car got washed away too. This according to another cousin who talked with her until the phone went dead.

In the Governors press confernce they mentioned bringing in mobile cell towers for Lee. Flooding is some of the worst I have seen. Poor ole Sanibel and Captiva Island, I doubt they will ever be the same.
I just talked to a guy that just left there he said they are evacuating people off Sanibel and Captiva by boat and helicopters. I got lucky, we only lost part of the roof on one of our condos but had no water damage

Love the Nature Coast area. We've been going down there every Feb. for a week.

I am so thankful Ace. So thankful. Yes I understand there are 28 helicopters moving people in addition to the boats. This is quite an undertaking. Building back that bridge will take a long time. I imagine it will be demolished or made into a fishing pier the way they did the Sunshine Skyway Bridge when it got knocked into the bay.

It is a very different Florida from the miles of resort hotels and Disney World. I enjoy the marshes and the fishing and hunting it provides. Plus the population is just small town America and mostly rural.

Thanks for visiting us.
Yep, right up our alley. Hiking, kayaking, seafood, and sunsets on the small beaches. I take fishing equipment every year, but end up never taking the time to fish.

Have you kayaked the Weeki Wachee or been over to Ozello? They have a great seafood restaurant over there. So many to list.

Just watched some videos and photo montages from Fort Myers Beach. I spent a LOT of years vacationing down on that beach and also working in the area. My Ex-wife's parents have a place down there. My kids grew up going down there almost yearly. Fort Myers Beach is obliterated. It's going to take years for them to recover. Many of my favorite places to visit and eat on that beach are literally gone. like nothing left. Junkanoo is literally a patch of ground where a building once stood. Hooters is obliterated. The Pier is wiped out, the whole Times square area is flattened. any home that wasn't on stilts or elevated is literally washed away. Fortunately my Ex In-Laws house was on stilts, hopefully it survived with minimal damage. The Whale is still standing, for the most part but the lower level is wiped out. just devastating all around. Lots of memories down there washed away.

The Ft. Myers area and surrounding towns are rubble. Truly awful and years of recovery ahead.

I have a friend in FM who lives on a coastal waterway that leads to the gulf and he lost 2 cars, major flooding in his home, and his boat is currently upside down in his swimming pool.

Daytona/New Smyrna/Ormond....massive flooding damage.

SC coast getting hit today.

If anyone sees anything from Ponce Inlet let me know. Thats where I lived and they got hammered with 31" of rain plus storm surge. Its on an island so it flooded just regular hard rains. Going to be heartbreaking to see the pics.

One of my co-workers was going to stay at her friend's place in Daytona and ended up going north of Tampa to her daughter's house. The friend's house in Daytona, right on or near the beach, got about 3 feet of water in it.

If they are in the island I bet they did. Atlantic plus IC rising and adding in 3’ of fresh water. Has to be devastating.

So it seems there is confusion on the possible 100's dead. Still haven't had a chance to dive into that but DeSantis isn't convinced that there have been that many fatalities and said maybe that was information gathered from 911 calls. Either way, would be a good prediction to be wrong on and hopefully it was just a miscommunication and the storm spared those lives.

Our villa style condo in Punta Gorda survived with only minor damage. We lost some ridge caps, had a few down trees, lost a storage shed and that was about it. It's on a cannel and if the storm surge had been what had been predicted we would have been under water but because the storm hit dead on, the eye wall had a north/south rotation and didn't bring in much water into Charlotte Harbor (7 feet), unlike Fort Myers, 30 miles south where the eye wall had more of a west/east direction, it flooded Fort Myers and just about wiped out Sanibel Island. Very sad situation there.
Glad to hear your condo had minimal damage. My house in port charlotte survived but lost my pool cage/dock/boat lift. All in all nothing that can’t be replaced. I have 4 paint stores in charlotte and Lee county one right across from sunseeker and amazingly they all seemed to have also pulled thru with minimal damage. The cranes at sunseeker evidently just hammered the buildings. 41 from kings Hwy to Marion is closed now also bc of sinkholes. I rode it out in ft Myers and had to go rescue my sister at her house right off Sanibel yesterday they had a close call had water up to 8’. I got them in my pickup yesterday the water on the road was almost to the hood of my truck. It looks like a war zone in Sanibel/ft Myers beach.

Was down in Venice today. Hit badly. Real effing bad. Debris everywhere. Bad flooding. North even worse. Can’t imagine what Cape Coral/Ft Myers is going through

Worst story. Talked to woman today. She just got back from Iowa on Monday from her baby brother committing suicide in front of his ex wife and two children and then she lost her home to Ian.

Numbing.

That’s terrible I’m up in venice for work quite a lot. Have many friends in the area. Haven’t talked to many of them but the ones I have all seemed to have pulled thru ok thankfully.

I don’t know how someone even deals with a situation like that lady had to endure. That’s unimaginable. If someone wants to commit suicide, whatever, but why do it in front of your kids man? Had to have serious mental issues obviously.

All things considered that's a pretty good report. Saw the pictures of Sanibel and the causeway that was destroyed on the news - looks like it was hit with a cluster of 500 pound bombs. When I lived in Ft. Myers back in the 90s I used to go to Sanibel once a week. I saw a picture of what use to be the pull-off right before the causeway where I use to park and go wind surfing. All that gone now :(

Stay safe down there.

selfish act. I feel bad for her. She lost her brother and now from the hurricane has no home. Just awful.

Little brother in Plant City texted back. He's okay, but on generator power. Cousins who live near downtown Orlando okay and still have power. Report high wind gusts there. Have not heard from other brother in Orlando.

I have not yet heard back from @Gassy_Knowls after texting him earlier.
It’s super nice to text and check on your people but coming from experience try not to text anyone that’s going or just been through an event like this. If they don’t have power the only resource they have left is their cell phone battery and every text sucks a little more out.

Look for them to mark themselves safe on social or wait for them to text you.

The Governor says it's going to take a MINIMUM of 2 years to repair the Sanibel causeway. My friend made it to Fort Myers yesterday, said both of his homes are destroyed, A tree crashed through one and 5 feet of water in the other.
A young guy I know lives on the 4th floor of a really nice condo building said he looked outside after the hurricane and his two month old 60 thousand dollar car was just gone. He has no idea where it is. Stuck in a tree somewhere probably.
We still have no power at our places. My neighbor contacted me and said he turned on his shower and the water come out black.

Lee county has a boil water advisory, how do you boil water when you have no power? But I do realize they have to start somewhere.

My friends that are there tell me the video we all see on tv doesn't do justice to how bad it is when you are there. Boats and cars in trees, piled on top each other etc. We are at our home in WNC and comfortable, so I feel very fortunate that we have another place to go to. So many others don't
