Huskers looked sharp on the mound today (Howell for 5 innings, Chesnut for 2 and freshman Chad Luensmann the final 2) as they tossed a 2 hitter and knocked off College of Charleston in the first game of the season. CoC was a solid team last year, losing in their regional to FSU and almost reaching the CWS. great start for the team even with Boldt and Miller going o'fer. We get those sticks going tomorrow and we could take the first series ... Very encouraging albeit very early evidence of a pulse.

You're spot on there. CoC was 21-3 in their conference last year and 45-15 overall. Real nice confidence boost right out the gate for the Huskers. Strong pitching and solid defense will likely be the strengths for this years team, at least at the outset, as we wait to see if DE can make a better offensive coach this year, taking most of that away from coach Mike Kirby. Last years dismal offensive numbers, especially at the close of the season, needs to improve if this fairly young team is going to do any damage this year in the B1G. We weren't even picked by the conference media to place in the top 6 teams in conference ... would love to prove that wrong, especially considering the tournament is in Omaha this year.
Nebraska got off to a great start last year too. It all fell apart when we ran into the buzzsaw otherwise know as 'BiG TeN BaSeBaLl' though.
Can't we just enjoy this season one game at a time instead of gloom and doom?

Tomorrow we will face a very high quality pitcher in 6' 8" Bailey Ober. He lost last year to TJ surgery but the year before he pitched 107 innings for a 1.52 ERA and a sparkling stat line. Was named Freshman Of The Year.
Good news is we are sending out Garrett King. Very good freshman year, excellent summer in a California league and no let up in fall and spring practice. Throws four pitches for strikes. Looks like a good one.

Great season opening win for the boys. But for goodness sakes can someone please explain to our guys that you don't wrap your hand around the barrel when bunting?
Ok lets get a update baseball guys, how did we do this weekend so far, i seen the Friday score but how did we fair today? Im at my sons basketball game so i can't keep updated well, there isn't much for college baseball scores anywhere.

We aren't as good as we looked yesterday and we aren't as bad as we looked today.
King struggled a bit to locate and was pifching behind the first 2 innings. Can't do that against a team as good as CoC. The scored 3 in the first and 4 in the second and that's all she wrote. Will be interesting to see how they come out in the rubber game of the series and who in particular will take the hill. Just need to get off to a good start tomorrow and I like our chances.
