I remember back in 2013, during the run to the NCAA tournament, when the chant had actually gotten pretty loud, there was a letter to the editor in the LJS where some "Husker fan" was complaining that the chant was mean.

Boyd isn't going to be happy...
Another Nebraska tradition we shouldn't abolish.

Heard on the radio that it is not being coordinated by the cheerleaders. In part because it was seen as mean by a few people who contacted the school.

Well, it isn't supposed to be inviting folks, goodness gracious.

How are they going to stop fans from doing this? Student section? What are they going to do? Tell everyone to leave? Raise ticket prices? What a joke.

Cheerleaders tried doing it before the team came out for the last time. Limited participation, students sat down and didn't participate. Love it.

Students had their own signs and got it going during Sparty introductions.

I don't know the whole story but sounds like they only don't want the cheerleaders to coordinate during intros so you can hear the opposing players names.

Oh good. Now I can be a visiting fan and not leave with my tail between my legs. That's actually more ridiculous than the aforementioned Herky being too mean. And that's as ridiculous as I thought it could get.

That chant should only be getting louder and louder. What is the punishment gonna be?

Can someone explain how this is even mean? Its a chant in reference to our strength and conditioning and will to win etc. it has nothing to do with the opposing team. If anything cry babies should love it because it omits the other team, right?
Liberals just want something to cry about, this proves it again.

Brilliant!
"The University" should push harder and harder to stop it. Be real asses about it. Then, one of you lugnuts from this board needs to stir it up with the students and tell them they can't be done this way. ...that they are being treated like the underclass. ...that their generation Z asses are being tread upon.

You get the idea.

What's next? Micro aggression trigger warnings for chanting "Go Big Red"????

Un freaking believable.

It's not like they're cheering "you suck" at the opposition.

Next we won't be able to throw the bones cause that skull and crossbones looks so mean.

Can you imagine some other schools trying that PC crap? I'd like someone to tell the students in Madison they can't play "jump around" at home games. They'd probably burn the place down.

I bet you if a "couple" of people contacted KU athletics complaining that "rock chalk Jayhawk" is an intimidating, unwelcoming taunt to visiting fans, their AD would tell them kindly to STFU and keep their moronic opinions to themselves, and if that were a problem, they are more than free to not attend games anymore.

Its simple really....

HUSKER is offensive because it is short for Cornhuskers. By minimizing the contribution of Corn, it becomes a derogatory term showing a bias against plants.

POWER is offensive because it can produce a trigger as well as promote bias against those who may oppressed but also for those who choose to save the planet by living a negative carbon lifestyle.

GO is offensive because it insults those who may have severe constipation and wish they could.

BIG offends for any number of reasons including fat shaming, those afflicted with dwarfism, and the obvious.

RED is offensive to the color blind who cannot see it, those of the ginger haired persuasion who see it as a stereotype,

You all need to check your priviledge and start being more sensitive to those who may be different from you.

Again, I know nothing about the specifics or why it was brought on. The word "mean" was thrown out by one guy on Twitter.

I believe hey were only suggesting to not have the cheerleaders leading a chant over player names being announced. It's not the worst thing in the world. If the fans cheer go for it.

Seriously?!?! If true, that is ridiculous.
Yeah, let's go down that road...also now out is "air ball"..."you can't do that"...waving things behind the hoop during free-throws...applauding a blocked shot (that's plain cruel) ... cheering for your own team in general, as it sends a clear signal to the opponent that you don't support their cause, and that's hurtful...

Couldn't we just have a therapy dog at the ready?
