Being a big dog at home also tells me something about the progress of the program.

At this point I dont know how anyone can disagree with that line. You never know what can happen of course but until they show improvement against a decent team I expect those type of predictions. Illinois/Rutgers = not good. Ill take the w's anyway we can get them of course. But gotta see more.

How does anyone figure this spread "has to move"? Where would you place it?

They were favored by around 19 vs Northwestern at home. Take away home field and we are about equal with Northwestern.

I think Nebraska could beat Wisconsin but this is an undefeated top 10 program we are playing.

Nebraska has two losses and really only wins against below average teams. This game is a huge opportunity to make a splash but until then, the spread seems right. I thought it was possible to even hit 14.

they were 16.5 vs nw which would mean 12 or so on a neutral. the 12.5 means we would be like 17 pt dogs on a neutral. i would not have nw 5 pts better and i do think it will come down.

Am surprised it’s that low. Was thinking more like 17 but will gladly take it to the bank. NU with easy cover.

If we have a 0 turnover game I think we have a 50/50 chance. Make them go 75-85 yards every possession. A punt s a good thing in this game. Lee threw a ball out of bounds on purpose once vs Illinois which was the first time I've seen him throw a ball away, so maybe the light is starting to come on.

Easy money ..
yep. Need to call my bookie friend and get the farm down on NU. Wonder what his bet limit is. Way too many points. I don't normally bet football but my gut tells me this is going to be a lot closer than the spread and personally I'm feelin an outright win for NU. GBR.

Don't let that game with Northwestern fool you, Wisconsin was saving a LOT for Nebraska, they will unleash their entire arsenal on the Huskers.;)

They only need 2 plays to beat us. Like they have for the last 5 years.

2 high school plays.

Way lower than I thought. I would have guessed 17 to 21.
Uh-maybe if we had lost to Illinois. I guessed about 10 so I wasn't too far off. It never ceases to amaze me year after year after year a number of our own fans always underestimate us by about a TD on the betting lines. I've never bet a cent on sports and never will, but I like to guess a lot of times what the line is going to be and I'm nearly always within a few points. I think it's pretty easy to see why people underestimate us so often-it shows that a lot of our own fans consistently see us as being worse than the general perception.

some on this board have awfully short memories
We remember that Bo sucked as a coach and was here too long, why does that matter regarding Riley?
Unless you're trying to say don't make the same mistakes twice?

Take Nebraska all day here. While I'm unhappy with this season thus far, we beat Wisconsin and it's a whole new ballgame.
Wisconsin is a 2nd half team, no one has been able to match them 2nd half.... but Nebraska, especially in defense and run game, also gets better in 2nd half, could be something wisky isn't used to. Plus night game, home, defense attacking now....I think we can win this and even if not it's not 12. I wish I gambled.

Woah-hey, let's not get too crazy here. Thinking we can win a big game? That's not allowed here.

I thought it would be 7-8. Very surprised it is this high. I think it comes down to the wire, just like the last two years,

Spread shows we are irrelevant. The first step is to admit we are irrelevant, the second step is to ask for help, and then we work the other 10 steps.

I understand that you are mocking dire posters, but I'll answer anyway just on the whole.
I agree that this season is not good thus far, unacceptable really, but we have won our last two and improvement has been shown, especially defensively both in performance and definitely in scheme, while there's still some work to do.
Should Nebraska lean on its run and clock game with timely play actions and mass protection passes, either with TE or RB staying in most of the time, and avoid turnovers we definitely have a chance. Our RBs are good enough. Our WRs can make plays when they catch the passes, etc. keep attacking on defense and stop playing soft on the corners.
My fear is that we come out bringing 3 on 2nd and 3rd, corners play back, OLBs in the middle of nowhere again on defense, while on offense only keep five in to protect against whiskys exotic blitz scheme and expect tanner to win the game for us. I don't expect that, but it does worry me.
Go with gameplan A on a night game in Lincoln and we can win, no doubt about it.
Plus throwback alternates. That's worth a FG right there.

My expectation is to win at least 9 or 10 games this year (depending on who we beat or lose to) and win the West while not getting blown out. I expect Riley to have won a conference title by the end of year 5. I will not relent on these expectations. If he can do it, the fanbase will get better. If he doesnt, I will be skeptical of his ability and call him out on it, only to be harassed by the hope crowd with a myraid of excuses and name calling.

The above is from early August; win 9 or 10, winning the west...

Currently with a 3-2 record (2-0 in conference), with 7, 8 or 9 games left.

Likely either happen? Not really, but...

No it isnt likely.
I thought we would beat NIU, pretty sure everyone agrees with me there before season.
I also thought we'd beat Oregon, less agreement, but still not a wild prediction considering last year and changes at Oregon, etc. would have been crazier to predict a win against OSU especially pre season.
But again you beat Wisconsin Saturday and all the sudden you're 3-0 in conference and Lloyd looks like he might bang Mary after all.

That's why it's worthless to huff and puff over the NIU loss, your very own expectations are within reach. That can change in 6 days, spend the energy then instead of going back to NIU while skipping right over beating 2 teams as ****** as Northern Illinois.

I think any game is relevant, that was a historical loss, just like pelini shame against Wisconsin, a 7 win team at that, was. Sure he beat 7 win teams in the future but damn you can't ignore that one,
That NIU loss still stands stings, regardless. If we get to 9 or 10 like we still can you're right that's great and Riley won't be fired. But that loss did and will always suck and leave us saying why?

B1G title game collapse against a 7-5 team is a little different than a OOC loss to Northern Illinois at home. That's just me though, have at it.

Your responses are faux outrage, IMO.

What outrage are you talking about?
Are you trying to pick a fight with me on here or something? Are you outraged that I believe the NIU loss was a terrible loss?
Whatever, calm down a little, not every conversation has to be an argument.

The outrage that you can't get over something 3 weeks ago. 2-0 in conference, top 10 opponent coming to town and you're "Northern Illinois loss." Your very own season predictions is within reach, "but Northern Illinois."

Pick a fight? Looking for an argument? Laughing Wrong.

Northern Illinois!
