Huskers open 6 1/2 favored over NW

Blackshirts should maul that offense and give the offense a lot of opportunities. 15k Husker fans will make the players feel at home. Are we allowed to get cocky now? lol
I remember QB Thorson ran all over us last year especially the first half. TA had one of his turnover prone games and we weren't as sharp as the week before in Minneapolis.. This was another one of those games we should have won but lost 28-30.
Need to put NW away early in the 2nd half or sooner.We seem to play better in Evanston against them then Lincoln.
That and expect a little bit of a let down. We'll see what the psychy is but it is not uncommon after a red circle win. NW usually plays us tough and gives us fits. Spread kind of surprises me but I think it's justified.
NW has been poor at home under Fitz. Against conference opponents I think they are .500 at home under Fitz.
7 sounds about right on the road. And with that I'd take Nebr if I was a betting man.
northwestern has this secret stable of recruits they share with leech, that every year they seem to find a qb that can actually PASS. it's the strangest thing I have ever seen.
They're trying to slow down the money going on Nebraska but it won't happen.

This game scares me. It's this kind of game.
I personally think the Indiana game is a bigger trap game. Here's why:
1. Nebraska was 6-7 last year and lost to Northwestern.
2. Nebraska will be playing at night, in Chicago. This isn't like waking up at dawn to play in front of 15,000 people in West Lafayette, IN.
3. Nebraska has a very experienced roster of players that have been in dogfights with Northwestern.
I think the bigger concerns about Northwestern is how they scratch their game plans from week to week. That makes them dangerous. Their team is smart as hell and will often trot out wholesale defensive changes that they've never showed on film. That can be confusing and allows them to hang around longer.
And we now got a coach that's not an idiot. We won't be losing many halftime adjustment battles anymore.

Look, if NU doesn't win this game by 14 or more it is an issue. NW sucks.
Oh that game scares the hell out of me too. I'm just worried about this one due to the timing and potential "let down." I am glad it's a night game. If it were at 11 am........
The ghost of Pelini was hanging over this program like a toxic cloud until after the Purdue game. And Tommy need his come to Jesus moment after Iowa. Then the team as a whole cleaned house in the offseason. This is a new team whether you like it or not and from your response I say you don't like it.
Northwestern's notorious for leaving their grass high to slow the game down. I expect a hard-fought game with Riley adjusting to whatever Fitzgerald does and he'll throw in a wrinkle or two himself.
This will be a great game to see where the team is at mentally. Will they be prepared, or will they let last week influence this weeks performance and cause a letdown?
Line sounds about right. I would guess more than 15K Husker fans will be there. I won't be showing up to Ryan Field expecting to witness a blowout. As Husker fans we're still waiting on the time when Northwestern gets categorized as an automatic win.
The length of the grass is one of my favorite stupid topics in football. Like an extra inch of grass just has those speed guys coming back to the huddle like, "Man, I can't run in this tall grass!" Like they don't have grass practice fields and they didn't grow up playing all their games on grass...
Teams take on the personality of their coach. And for Nebraska that means good things.
Simply put it takes away the athletic advantage and it makes it a fair fight.
But, how? I have coached for years and I have never understood this.
If a dude runs a 4.4 on turf and a 4.8 on tall grass...doesn't the dude that runs a 4.8 on turf now run a 5.2 o tall grass?
So...the one guy is still just as fast as the other. The argument doesn't make sense.
I can understand heavy rain and a torn up soaked field...maybe super heavy snow and sleet but not just grass that is taller.
You wouldn't believe how much of a mental and physical hindrance this is to people used to running on a fast track.
Athletes are used to beating people with their athletic advantage... this takes that away. Now the game becomes a battle between coaching and in game preparation.

Why do you think games played in the NFL during rainstorms and snowstorms turn into a 6-3 battle???

I gave you the example. It slows down both teams...which means one team is still more athletic than the other.
I have had teams play on old turf, new turf, tall grass and short grass...no difference. The only difference I have ever noticed is rain soaked.
Try running it some mud and you'll understand what kind of a hindrance tall grass is like?
Exactly...and I agreed with that and mentioned that. Now, not all of them do, but a lot do. Most of that has to do with holding on to the ball and being able to grip it when you throw.
We are talking about grass that might be like, 1.5 inches tall. Not a rainstorm or snowstorm.
So, unless the grass is so high that it is interfering with Armstrongs throwing motion, I really don't see an issue.
It's because Northwestern is accustomed to playing in this condition and others aren't. Why do you think they do it???
