I coach 3/4th grade rec ball and we always get one or two "own baskets" a season. Always good for a laugh.

My 1st grader played a rec game last week for an hour and with a couple minutes to go one of the kids forgot which way to go and scored on his own basket.

The other team just went with it and went down and scored one on the wrong basket as well.

Hyatt froze and was scared to death of getting a travel, so he wanted to pass to one of the guards to bring it up the court. Paul could have easily passed it back to him for another 5+ seconds off the clock. Pike should have taken a timeout to calm things down, but he never will.

Yeah that's what it looked like to me as well. He just froze and panicked. Not sure I'm getting over this one anytime soon.

In pikes defense and I agree he probably should have used that time out. That said it’s almost inconceivable what we did there.

He was scared of shooting FTs or getting the ball stripped. It would have been better to have Simpson in the game for an additional ball handler and FT shooter. Regardless, your guards have to bring you home and ice the game when you are up late. Unfortunately, it did not happen.

Cam also has an odd play late in the game on offense where he got a rebound, proceeded to stop dribbling the ball and jumped in the air (and didn’t get a TO).

We did so much wrong as a team in the last couple of minutes it’s truly mind boggling.

there was a Rutgers-George Washington game back in the 94 season that took me 3 weeks to get over....RU up with 2 seconds and length of the court pass to Yinka Dare who caught it and scored over Chuck Weiler...would keep RU out of NIT

lost in all this is RU didnt score a fg vs a 7-20 team in the last 4:24....Paul took back to back missed 3s on offensive possessions late and for some reasons not going to Cam or Cliff for that matter

Do You Coach The Worst 3/4th Grade Rec Team In The Conference?

😁
I still can’t believe that play. The odds of a player doing what Hyatt did in that situation are probably lower than the odds of losing the game up 10 like that. I mean I have never ever seen someone catch a ball near mid court breaking a press and pass it back to the press ever. And I watch and have coached a lot of basketball

Yeah but most of that we were just getting fouled quicky

I don’t know about the free throw reasoning

Rewind the away Indiana game from last year, when he was chosen by indiana to shoot free throws with 19 seconds left , with the game on the line

He was smiling and looking so relaxed

I was amazed that he looked so calm and seemed to enjoy the moment

And he sank the two free throws

He's 70 something percent he's not dreadful come on. That's D1 average. "Caleb is an average FT shooter and I'd rather have Cam." No need to exaggerate.
Caleb has missed free throws at every critical point this season.. I don't remember the last time he made two in a row.

Hyatt’s play last night is what happens when you don’t know what you’re going to do with the ball before you get it.
He froze up because he got the ball in an unfamiliar area of the court with no one around him. Or the times when he has gotten the ball there, 4 opposing players weren’t in the back court so it was easy to just pass it back to a guard.
Unfortunately for him, he failed to recognize almost the entire Minny team was in the back court before the play. Had he recognized that, he would have confidently crossed mid court.
It’s the reason why in baseball, outfielders and infielders are constantly communicating before each at bat what they’re going to do with the ball if it’s hit to them.
Hyatt either didn’t know what he was going to do. Or he totally misread it and told himself he’ll easily be able to get it to a guard.
As for PM’s pass, he understandably panicked since I don’t think he was expecting that. One bad play usually leads to another

How about the fact that Hyatt FT shooting has been bad for a couple games now and that in that situation Simpson shouldve been in the game for him.

I'd like to see the play over to know for sure if it was a possibility, but I don't know why Caleb just stood there and waited to be fouled rather than trying to get the ball to Spencer if possible. Having said that Mr. Automatic had also missed one inside of a minute. All in all none of them should have been able to sleep last night over that debacle.
