24How many points are we hypothetically giving up on average?
Not going to predict, but you are one who is getting it!! Give me 35 a game I like our chances.Lets say we average 35 points a game...how many wins does that get us???
They are if you let them be! I just got back from the Hypothetical Outback Bowl, had a great trip!Hypothetical wins are not nearly as satisfying as actual wins.
Last year if we had scored 35 points every game and the other side had scored the same as they did (wouldn't have happened of course) we would have only lost to Thug U, by 17, MSU, by 7, and Transfer U by 3. We would have beat Florida by 26 and Mizzou by 22, and Vandy by 14.
Probably not that relevant, but interesting.
Nine wins, I could live with that.
There's a vast difference between scoring 35 every game and averaging 35. Score 70 in 6 games and 0 in the other 6 for 35 a game and a 6-6 record. Glad to get 6 wins any way we can.

If the team averages 35 points a game, we still only win 5. The defense will be worn out.Lets say we average 35 points a game...how many wins does that get us???
Considering the Cats underperformed on offense last year from the prior year, and with a new QB, more experience and talent, as well as a very solid OC, a jump of that magnitude is hardly out of the question for the Cats.I know we are talking hypothetical here but just to put some actual numbers to it...
The Cats averaged 23.8 (vs FBS competition) last year. Averaging 35 would be a one season jump of 11.2 PPG. In 2015, there were only 11 teams that upped their 2014 PPG mark by 11.2 or more.
Interesting side notes:
(1) Six of those 11 teams were ranked in the top 11 passing teams (YPG) in 2015.
(2) MS was the only SEC team to improve by 11.2 PPG or more.
Peace
With the way the defense has performed to-date in Fall camp, I'd venture 2-4 wins. If you can't stop the run and only occasionally pressure the passer, you're not going to win very many shootouts vs SEC or U of L, or So. Miss. for that matter.
I find irony in your screen name.
The defense will be better than last year, even if only by a little, and it sounds as if the offense will be significantly better this year than it was last. Considering that UK was a play away from beating Florida, Vanderbilt, and Auburn, and should have destroyed Louisville with the start that we had, I think we'll certainly fare better than "2-4 wins".

Those who say we have an improved defense are what we call 'stoops apologists' they make excuses for everything that doesn't go ;stoops way. If our defense isn't much improved like they hope it will. They're going to chalk it up to stoops not having denough time to recruit and create depth. Just notice who it was who made the post, and when mid-late season comes around listen to what he's saying then. He's going to blame our defensive woes to injuries (every team experiences injuries), and stoops not having enough time to build depth at positions of need. Seriously just watch the excuses the guy will be making for stoops defense during the last 3rd of the season. It's not going to be stoops fault it's going to be injuries and father time's fault for not allowing stoops enough time to recruit. Just watch. Guarantee it. But yea to your point. Inability to finish tackles is going to kill is this year.. Like absolutely kill us.You surely realize that FL, VU and AU have not sat around on their hands all Spring, Summer and Fall. With the athletes they have, I expect that FL and AU will be more than a little better; Vandy who knows.
The reason my friend that we didn't beat, much less destroy, UofL was that we could not stop the run; we simply couldn't tackle in the 2nd half.
With such an important FB fundamental, tackling, being a problem 10 days into Fall camp, at this point I simply don't share your belief that the defense will be better than last year. In fact, it could be much worse! So much so that even a high powered offense, if we indeed will have one, won't ensure a win.
