I don't see the issue as a development problem, rather a personality&talent evaluation problem as far as recent transfer issues. I think they've just missed more than they would've liked and been somewhat forced into accepting transfers due to hunting the portal out of need rather than desire to improve a certain slot. If you're accepting "luxury" additions from the portal your hit rate will be fairly good. If you're having to go find portal acquisitions to fill holes of need, or to truly increase your podium potential, your hit rate lowers. You find a guy to find a guy. Williams and Bailey are darn good wrestlers. However, they aren't necessarily what I expect an Iowa 141 or 157 to be. They weren't prior to Iowa either. Regardless of earning AA status. These transfer things are hit and miss. You may find an extremely good wrestler who fits in, has the work ethic, and buys into the program. Or you find one who is missing any one of those things and it affects the product on the mat. Most all of the guys Iowa fans reference, generally, when talking about what Iowa was and should be now were homegrown. The recruiting issue could be addressed with staff personnel changes I imagine. Get creative. Get younger. Get someone current recruits connect with and recognize.
