But we know that he's not going to win many more games. Nevertheless, I'm convinced that he's going to be here next season.
I was a sophomore when Sherrill arrived, and I remember him placing the uni options in a glass case in the Union--and students voting on them. It bought JWS some cred with the students at the time. It was a smooth PR move, and a nice way to begin a relationship with the fans. (I think he also did the "12th man thing that year, too.)
Croom, by contrast, came in, consulted nobody but himself, and with no regard for tradition or the opinion of the fans, switched to the chump hats and kneesocks that we now have.
That in and of itself was offensive.
Since then, we've seen repeated stupid game day coaching decisions, stupid hiring decisions for coordinators, idiotic, lazy recruiting practices, and then spiteful statements made about the fans when we have the nerve to complain about any of it.
It demonstrates a clear trend--the guy has contempt for the fan base.
So yes, maybe I should've phrased the question, "Would it make you hate the guy any less if he suddenly started changing his behavior in response to fan demands?"
But I didn't, because for me, the helmet is what started it all.
