Hypothetical Scenario: Croom Switches Back to Maroon Helmets

What difference would it make to you if he finally listened to the fans and switched back to maroon helmets? (An "MSU" variation, as opposed to a maroon reverse of the flying M-state, which he was rumored to have rejected when he arrived in Starkville.)

...as long as he wins. He could change the entire school colors. Winning is the only thing that matters. Not Maroon.

The color of the helmets is the least of my problems with Crxxm.

that Croom came in and tried to immediately distance himself from the past...uniforms and everything. He wanted to put HIS stamp on the program. He IS NOT Mississippi State. I like what Cohen is doing by going back to our traditional uniforms so that our M over S as he calls it is recognized nationally. In my opinion we need a consistent look and I favor maroon helmets and the unifornms of the Sherrill era. The high socks, white helmets and "pro" look do not appeal to me at all.

the whole reason for the M-State banner was for consistency. Personally, I think it's better to have the three logos- the M over S for baseball, interlocking MSU for football, and M-State for basketball because it forces our fans to buy at least three shirts.

But we know that he's not going to win many more games. Nevertheless, I'm convinced that he's going to be here next season.

I was a sophomore when Sherrill arrived, and I remember him placing the uni options in a glass case in the Union--and students voting on them. It bought JWS some cred with the students at the time. It was a smooth PR move, and a nice way to begin a relationship with the fans. (I think he also did the "12th man thing that year, too.)

Croom, by contrast, came in, consulted nobody but himself, and with no regard for tradition or the opinion of the fans, switched to the chump hats and kneesocks that we now have.

That in and of itself was offensive.

Since then, we've seen repeated stupid game day coaching decisions, stupid hiring decisions for coordinators, idiotic, lazy recruiting practices, and then spiteful statements made about the fans when we have the nerve to complain about any of it.

It demonstrates a clear trend--the guy has contempt for the fan base.

So yes, maybe I should've phrased the question, "Would it make you hate the guy any less if he suddenly started changing his behavior in response to fan demands?"

But I didn't, because for me, the helmet is what started it all.

but he was never abrasive to his own fanbase. He certainly never treated his own fanbase as the enemy even through most of the final bad years. In fact, during his tenure, he allowed student interaction as you've spoken of, defended the cowbells to the nth degree and even went through the pains of taking calls from disgruntled fans after losses. Now he might not have done a lot to in the way of answers but he at least took them. Croom has always to me seemed to want to disassociate himself with any real connection to the fanbase. And, by the way, I really wouldn't care if he told the fanbase to go jump in the lake if he actually was performing well as a coach (sort of like Saban), but he isn't, so there isn't a lot of compassion built up from the fanbase for him in that regard.

....until we turn the corner. Whenever that is. Then we switch to maroon, which would be a huge symbol of closure on the most awful decade of MSU football.

I can't get the line from Naked Gun out of my head when Drebin says something like "Mrs. Nordberg, we will not rest until we find the men responsible for doing this to your husband. C'mon Ed..let's go get some lunch."

us and get the helments right, then that is a sure fire indication that he will run the play that I post on this board with the subject line "Dear Coach Croom"

This is a joke right? He changes the helments for those that give a **** and he gets to keep his job for it?
