I just posted this before reading the commentsOP played the violin on the Titanic as it sunk.
LOL at some of the stuff I'm reading. For all that recruiting, he couldn't even get out of the 1st round. Pope wildly exceeded expectations in year one and it's November of year two with 2 key injuries and a lame Oweh coming back from injury as well. Sickening that people just turn the table and chairs over at the first sign on adversity. I guess they hang out under their bed everyday.Being a nice guy is one thing but being relatable is another.
I'm not sure Pope has that with recruits.
Nowhere near on the level Cal had.
Coming from BYU and never winning anything of significance probably has most parents of high level recruits skeptical.
It was surprising to me that Pope wanted the UK job.
I had him pegged as someone who wanted the "niche" factor that BYU creates where he could recruit the Ritchie Saunders, Colin Chandler types and throw in the occasional foreign kid or transfer.
Never pegged Pope as a guy who wanted to enter Cal's world as far as recruiting.
I get the point, but those guys were actually heroes given the circumstances.Anyone remember the Violin playing scene towards the end of the Titanic movie?
But, you already know how the movie is going to end?
Haha, I was thinking the exact same thing! But how, and why?If you told someone to go gather a team that would be the absolute worst playing pope's style this would be it.
Idiotic roster constructionLast year's team had shooters who were basketball players, but not great athletes. This year's team has athletes, but not many shooters.
I agree. I don't think he can coach the defensive end AT ALL. They play soft and get outrebounded by anyone with a pulse. Goes back to Louisville. Drop covering ball screens and DHO actions and then also going UNDER the screener. Both are soft coverages. I need Chris Beard to kill it this year and next at Ole Miss. That should be enough time to end this little experiment. It’s most definitely still X and O problem. Kelvin Sampson would have opposing coaches breathing through a straw if he had a roster like this
Buddy...You think Lowe or JQ either one are going to rush back to play with this mess?He gets this season.. let's pray this is really just a couple of bad teammates dragging things down, along with injuries to start. Thats something we cant forget. Still have our PG injured, still dont have JQ, who i think was originally thought of as a guy who might have been ready to start the season, per early reports.
Boy...even a few weeks ago I got a lot of pushback for saying the exact same thing. But if you know anything about basketball, you know that's the case.I said it in another thread, but one of Pope’s biggest failures since being here was putting a lot of faith (and probably money) into Oweh and BG being major cogs of this year’s team. It’s like Pope got hypnotized by Oweh’s pre-season hype (when anyone who watched him last year knew he was NEVER going to be the go-to guy of any successful team) and somehow thought BG would be a big contributor as the starting center.
Pope seems like a super smart guy, but a lot of us Benny’s could have told him that Oweh can’t be your go-to guy and that BG will never be a starting SEC center.
Garrison acting immature? No way...Rumors are a fight between 2 players before Cards game. And tonight Garisson was screaming at guys in the huddle until Pope stepped in.

Because he's a big goofy dorky white Mormon dude trying to recruit...well, dudes that are anything but that.I just dont get how he could be bad at it. But maybe its true.
Lowe's shoulder is going to continue to be an issue until surgery. The tendons and muscles around the joint are "stretched" and "loose". You can rest and strengthen over a few weeks and try again, and then it happens again. Surgery is the only thing that stops that cycle.JQ maybe not now. But I dont see why Lowe cant come back, if the shoulder isnt serious.
And if it is serious, then we sort of have to apply SOME of our troubles to simple injury woes, yet again.
You don't get to count JQ dude. Pope knew where he was when he signed him. Pope can't sign a guy that he knows won't be available until January at best, and then say not having him in Nov/Dec is a problem. Doesn't work that way.LOL at some of the stuff I'm reading. Isn't the guy that constructed it smart?Idiotic roster construction
I'm afraid our coach is already to kind and encouraging, that's not working right now. Time to coach like Izzo, be stern with a little mean mixed in, and players will play hard, respect, and love the coach. I'm afraid Money has created to many head games for a lot of players.Just have to be even more kind and encouraging!![]()
And that’s part of the problem. After playing with little fight, I’d have rather Pope come out there like a loose cannon in a press conference rather than look like his cat drowned in a lake. Show me some ******* balls and act like you’re not gonna put up with this anymoreI’m not entirely sure. The $20 million dollar roster stuff has him in a between a rock and a hard place. Everyone will be beating down upon him if he fails to do anything this season, the fans, the media and most importantly the boosters.
He might not even want the job after he’s experienced being under the spotlight of negativity. He looks quite disoriented right now. He doesn’t exude confidence at all. I see a man who doesn’t have any of the answers and is utterly frustrated by what he’s experiencing.
