But here we set with an RPI of 20. Its really 19 because Arizona State is ineligible.

I think everyone in the current Top 13 RPI-wise is safe as far as hosting. That leaves three spots.

#14-16 are Miami, Arizona and Kentucky - all three of those teams are fighting to host a regional, and we can eliminate Kentucky today.

#17 is Arkansas, their 2 and Q probably knocked them out. #18 is Arizona State (ineligible) and #19 is Purdue, which probably gets a geography host. Teams behind us that are going to be considered for a host are #21 Cal State Fullerton and #24 UCF.

Putting that all together, that's 7 teams for two spots (8 for 3 if you don't think Purdue is a lock)

Group 1 - One of these teams will host, 2 if Purdue doesn't get its shot in Gary.
Miami - would be a fifth ACC host, that might hurt them. First round ACC loss to NCState didn't help. A loss today to UNC and they drop from consideration.
Arizona - probably the favorite at this point, if they can win the series against ASU, its probably theirs.
Cal State Fullerton - Needs to take care of business against Riverside and get some help from the Devils.
UCF - A long shot, really needs to make a run in Pearl and have all of the above falter.

Group 2 - Battle for the fourth SEC host
Kentucky - right now the fourth SEC host, but a loss today makes them 0-4 against MSU and may give MSU a better RPI.
Arkansas - maybe in the conversation, but have to think MSU gets more consideration even though Arkansas' RPI is slightly higher
Mississippi State - a win today makes them 4-0 against Kentucky. The SEC will get four hosts.

Right now it looks like Arizona and Kentucky have the two last spots, but a win today and you have to think we pass UK.

I agree with you except or one thing...UK will not be eliminated today if we beat them. We need them to lose immediately again if we win today. If they stay in the SECT a while, they will maintain a host site, even if they lose to us. That's the way I view it anyway, but I may be wrong.

In baseball, only the top 8 teams are seeded. The 9-16 teams are placed for geography/conference affiliation.

So, if the following are the likely national seeds:

1. Florida State
2. Florida
3. UCLA
4. Baylor
5. UNC
6. LSU
7. Oregon
8. South Carolina

with the following 9-16 hosts
Stanford
NC State
Texas A&M
Virginia
Rice
Arizona
Mississippi State
Purdue

1. Florida State >> NC State or Virginia
2. Florida >> MSU or Purdue
3. UCLA >> Arizona or Stanford
4. Baylor >> A&M or Rice
5. UNC >> NC State or Virginia
6. LSU >> Texas A&M, Rice or MSU
7. Oregon >> Arizona, Stanford or Purdue
8. South Carolina >> Purdue, NC State or Virginia

The NCAA loves for conference matchups in the Super Regionals.

...because the NCAA will want to set up an even number of West Coast regionals-- right now three West Coast teams look to be hosting.

Arizona would give the Pac-12 four hosts and I would not be surprised if they were matched up against UCLA as far as Super Regionals are concerned. Oregon and Stanford would be matched up against each other too.

If Arizona doesn't get it, I'm sure that Cal State Fullerton will with the Wildcats being the 2-seed in their regional (as Fullerton would be in Tucson).

An MSU win today only completely eliminates Arkansas. Combined with a North Carolina win over Miami, then there would be five teams for 2 hosts:

Kentucky/Mississippi State
Arizona/Cal State Fullerton/UCF

And if UCF loses one game in Pearl, they are out.

I don't think we are competing with Fullerton or Arizona, we are competing with Kentucky, and maybe Arkansas.

The best scenario that I can come up with is:

Win over Kentucky
Kentucky beat LSU
Beat Kentucky again

At that point, we will have a better record, a better RPI and we would be 5-0 against them. If I am on that committee and team A has a better record, a higher RPI and beat team B 5 times out of 5, its going to be hard to choose Team B.

That I think the only way we host is to take Kentucky's spot. We need to beat them today and they lose tomorrow to LSU. I don't see the committee letting more than 4 SEC teams host.

If we get a 2 seed I think we will get to avoid a natl seed and be sent to either Purdue or Virginia

No longer influenced by nice gates and rich bids by the hosting institution? I can see them not allowing someone to buy a Super, but in the first round, I still think a sharp bid by Grasshopper will put us in good stead.
