That, from a big picture perspective, I am proud of Mississippi State for being the first SEC school to give a minority candidate a chance to be a head football coach in the SEC. I believe that says a lot about the identity of the MSU family.

I also admit that Coach Croom was lacking in a couple of areas that rendered him incapable of much success at MSU. Though I was in total agreement that he needed to go, and I had no confidence he could turn things around, he did accomplish some important things for our program: generally, the team played harder and more together; the defense was vastly improved; he apparently was successful at emphasizing academics, for the team GPA was greatly improved.

With all that said, WOW. Mullen appears to have great football IQ, infectious energy, confidence and determination, and a good understanding of the current state of our program. There was a lot of social significance at Croom's introductory press conference. There was a ton of football significance at Mullen's.

I also want to again point out the job Byrne is doing. Ultimately, he will be graded on the success of the teams, i.e., wins and losses. But at this point, before that can be measured, I don't see how he could be doing a much better job for MSU.

Finally, does anybody know where I can get some heavy duty wool shearers? I can hardly walk for all of my sheepy wooliness.

Edited to make clear that I was not a CC fan after the first 2+ years.

which we had counted on to win after the horrendous onslaught at the beginning of the season, that Croom would never get it done. We all made excuses to ourselves, some were more outspoken, some were not (partly because I think we all wanted him to succeed). I have yet to see the cause of this blind brainwashing we endured.

The Maine loss was bad, but then came the Florida win. The close game with Katrina ravaged Tulane and blowouts that came after it was bad, but then came the Egg Bowl. 2006 was horrid, but then came Alabama. Then the luck of 2007. We all knew we still sucked but the wool can blind you. Then Louisiana Tech. Downhill.

The man absolutely sucked as a head coach. Funny thing is, we were still close to winning seasons amidst the suckitude. Mullen will win here easily.

black players would want to play for him but we now know that the only color that matters is Green$$$$$$$$ from winning games.
