Last week lightning struck my next door neighbor's house but the power surge took out a 55 inch flat screen, a Viking microwave, AppleTV, and all of my internet equipment in the house. Only worse when home owner's insurance does not exist in this country and the import taxes make that stuff damn expensive (New TV cost about $2,500... but was about $3,500 when I bought it).
Today, I was sleeping in after a late night online poker grind. About 8:45 or so and about 15 minutes before my alarm was set to start playing WCOOP events again today a big decorative candlle and glass dish it was sitting on fall of a shelf and land about a foot and a half below on my forehead. Obviously wakes me up but now I cant figure out what is happening and I hear some glass breaking from the middle of the house. And now the bed is shaking like hell and starting to kind of walk across the room. It was a freaking huge earthquake!
Turns out the earthquake was originally reported as a 7.9, some have said a little smaller... and the epicenter was less than 20 miles from my house off the coast of the Nicoya in Peninsula of Costa Rica.
Good news is other than a few dishes that rattled out of the cabinet and three clay roof tiles that fell into the pool off of the gazebo todo esta bien!
Took a couple of hours but now all cell phones, internet, and power have been restored. At least I got that going for me and can watch the Cowboys tonight and the Bulldogs on Saturday! God willing!
But each and every aftershock just scares the **** out of me!
