His voice is just awful. It's grating to my ears and he's hardly ever in tune. I'm a music guy - I like all kinds of music, and when I hear a good effort in any genre I appreciate it, but I have just never gotten the lovefest. I used to think it was a 60's thing -- you had to live in that moment to get his 'poetry'. But I know a lot of people my age and younger are digging on him... What am I missing?

Ps. Same for Bruce Springsteen.

They've both got a few good songs out, but most of their stuff is way overrated.

He started out as a typical beatnik folk singer, complete with acoustic guitar and harmonica. In 1965, he decided to go electric, which totally pissed off his folkie fan base (who were more into the Leftist Social justice movement than music).

In 1966, he released a Country Album....remember, at the time, Country Music was considered backward, and "cool" singers didn't play that music. However, herespected the music and was fearless in attempting it.

In the late 1970's-early 1980's, he became an Evangelical Christian, and composed some of the best Gospel songs I've ever heard.

True, he's now an elderly singer who can't hold a tune. However, he was about the music, and wasn't afraid to try new stuff.</p>
