I am really liking Mike Bonner of the CL.

His tweets are informative.

His video wrap ups like wise.

Haven't noticed any unnecessarily snarky remarks.

I don't want a homer but someone who reports facts and gives good solid pertinent info.

So far he reminds me a little of Ian. That's a good thing.

Bob isn't going anywhere and they seem to get along. I'm a fan of the guy. Just gives it to you straight and seems to have a sense of humor. Seems to appreciate just being a beat writer for an SEC program instead of having an attitude like Marcello where was pissed he ended up not covering Florida or one of the big boys.

I like Bonner a lot too.

His regional coverage was outstanding and he seems to enjoy his work. I hope he sticks around for a little while.

Me too. I really like this guy. For the most part, we've had very good beat writers from the CL. Sekou, Ian, Veazey, and now Bonner. I tried to like Marcello. I really did. And he wasn't horrible. But he wasn't anywhere near up to par with the other 4 I mentioned.

His statistics that he reports are leaps and bounds above others who cover MSU. He keeps track of pitches, foul balls, swings, etc. He brings so much more to the game with all those stats for me

I am really enjoying Bonner's work so far, as well. Does anyone else think it is coincidental that after Rusty Hampton leaves the CL that the coverage for State has gotten a lot better? Even Talty doesn't seem to stir the pot as much now. Or am I the only one?

I like what I have seen from Bonner as well. Now if the Daily Journal will just replace the king of snark, Brad Locke, we might have some tolerable reading in both of our major sports sections.

Just wait until recruiting season... I'm already dreading that **** throwing contest.

The way another writer explained it to me was Talty is a nice but young and naive guy who had NO connections with Mississippi. The only thing he knew when he moved here was Ole Miss, so he figured that was the head honcho.

Can't be too mad about that. The general population of the US thinks we have one team and it's either a maroon Ole Miss team or a blue and red Ole Miss team. Everyone knows their name because it's easy to remember a school from Mississippi named "Ole Miss" and they're constantly in the news for something negative and they'll always be famous for denying a black guy admission into their university and JFK and RFK having to ship the military to occupy their campus. MSU has kept a low profile since the dawn of time. Our greatest social victory, sneaking out of the state to play a basketball game against black players, was even low key (by design).

I guess you could get mad at Talty for not educating himself when he showed up and you could get mad at CL for hiring a guy who had no clue about Mississippi, but apparently Talty has figured out how to report without pissing off either side. The same thing happened with Marcello.

Bonner is great because he's done this at a different level before. I think he was a sports journalist for high school or whatever in Iowa. He has experience. CL was Marcello's and Talty's first real job.

"it's easy to remember a school from Mississippi named "Ole Miss"

I wish our name was more closely related to the state of Mississippi so that people could remember us.**
