Big 12 has 10 members.

Big 10 has 14 members.

Pac-12, the only conference that can count correctly in its title, has 12 members.

Big 12 has 6 teams in 2nd round of March Madness. That’s 60%.

Big 10 has 6 teams in 2nd round of March Madness. That’s 43%.

Pac-12 has 5 teams in 2nd round of March Madness. That’s 42%.

Based on March Madness results so far, my contention for months that the Big 12 is the toughest conference, TOP TO BOTTOM, is vindicated by a wide margin. After all, the Big 12 came within ONE POINT of being the first conference in history to go 7-0 with Texas stumbling – with 22 turnovers! – to feisty Abilene Christian.

As a reminder, I’ve always said that, NEAR THE TOP, the Big 12 and Big 10 are pretty even. Still think so. But Big 12 teams play EVERY team in the conference. Big 10 doesn't do that. Who they don't play factors in as much as who they do play.

Today will be the first matchup of a Big 12 team against a Big 10 team when Baylor plays Wisconsin at 2:40 p.m. on CBS. Baylor was easily the best team in the Big 12, at 13-1. Kansas, Texas and West Virginia were next, with SIX losses in the fierce physical Big 12 gauntlet where teams whacked each other mercilessly all season long. Wisconsin was in SIXTH place in the weaker Big 10 with a .500 record (10-10).

Today’s March Madness games involving other Big 12 teams are:

My beloved alma mater, West Virginia, vs. Syracuse, a long-ago Big East rival, at 5:15 p.m. on CBS.

Texas Tech vs. Arkansas at 6:10 p.m. on TNT.

Oklahoma State vs. Oregon at 9:40 p.m. on TBS.

WVU wins (of course I'm biased)

As far as the excuses of Texas only lost by point is crap. Abiline was outplayed and Texas was choke city overrated and embarrassed Big 12 champion. And I enjoyed every minute of their humiliation.

You posted that it was worse for B1G schools to lose in overtime than in regulation, as if that made them mentally weak or something. That is total bullsh!t, and you know it. No B1G team has lost in regulation, but the BIG 12 CHAMPIONS have, to a nothing program that just became Division 1 in 2013-14, and had never won an NCAA Tournament game. In case the batteries in your hearing aids are running low: THE BIG 12 CHAMPION JUST LOST TO A NOTHING PROGRAM, AND EXHIBITED INCREDIBLE MENTAL WEAKNESS IN DOING SO. No bakery in Indianapolis has as many turnovers as Texas committed last night.

The conference with the best depth is the Big 10, as proven by its NINE teams making the NCAA Tournament field. The Big 12's NINTH place team was 9-20 Kansas State, which suffered that unforgettable and embarrassing loss to Fort Hays State, a Division II program. Although the B1G is clearly deeper, it remains to be seen which of the conferences is the best, as the most important games are left to be played.

NINE is STILL more than SEVEN, CFE. The B1G is deeper, sorry. Yes, the B1G has more teams, but also has more quality teams. This means more depth. Oh, and the bottom two teams in the B1G weren't laughing stocks that lost to a Division II school or went 2-22. Did I mention that NINE is more than SEVEN?

Because COVID eliminated the 2nd schedule game. Is this fake news? 5 of 9 Big 10 teams going home. 6 of 7 Big 12 teams still alive. Uninformed see that WVU and Oklahoma State lost SIX games in the Big 12 and think that's because they aren't that good. No, it's because every game against Baylor is automatic loss, except once. After the Big 12 schedule March Madness is a lark in the park for Big 12 teams. Stop forcing me to make you look like an idiot!
