Payne is the guy, and we are waiting until the Final Four is over to make the hire. He also agreed that Drew would not have been the right hire...I know this isn't earth shattering but that's what I was told.

When he told me Dooley, he was correct. When he told me Drew, he was correct. So what's your point? It's not his fault that those two "deals" fell through.

an offer and turned it down. My guy said from day one that it was Dooley or Payne with Stan Jones having an outside shot, check my post. The Drew deal caught him off guard but he did confirm it.

He was really considered, but in the end it was decided he was too soft-spoken

NEW ORLEANS – Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin met at the Ritz-Carlton hotel here Friday with Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne, sources have told Yahoo! Sports.

Stricklin is looking for a head coach after Rick Stansbury retired
earlier this month. Payne, a native of Laurel, Miss., is in town with
the No. 1-ranked Wildcats, who play Louisville on Saturday night in the Final Four.

Stricklin did not immediately return a message left Friday evening by Yahoo! Sports.

Payne comes from the most successful program in the country the past couple of years and knows Mississippi. However, he has no head-coaching experience and is closely tied to controversial basketball maven William Wesley.

Wesley helped get Payne into coaching as an assistant at Oregon.
Two years ago Payne moved to Kentucky to coach under John Calipari, a
close friend of Wesley’s. Wesley is a well-connected consultant for
Creative Arts Alliance, an agency that represents coaches and
professional players, and he has ties to players on levels from high
school to the NBA.

reporting what he said (I know, posting of rumors is encouraged here), but these guys that think they know what the hell is going on are just big shot wannabes, especially this one that told you wrong 3 times.
