Assuming youre talking about basketball this is not really a surprise. Chris Beard is a really good coach who employs a lot of what he learned under Bob Knight who is the best coach in college bb history imo.
You apparently have never heard of "The Wizard of Westwood"? Knight is top 5 and maybe as high as second or third but no way is he the best. Let me preface this by saying I'm a Knight fan too.

So you think a guy who is about to take Mississippi State to its third NCAAT in three years isn’t a good coach? When has any coach at Mississippi State ever batted 1.000 in anything?
That would be a big deal if he can get us back in the NCAA, but damn we need a tournament win, that would legitimize some things and help us in recruiting.

This is the difference between the OM obsessed folks and me. I'd rather us beat UK or Alabama. The nation takes notice of that. I'm happy we beat OM because losing to them is awful. But many on here can't see past them and are simply satisfied with beating them. I'd rather us actually make some noise in the wider basketball world.
Totally agree. Losing those games over and over is deflating for the program. Feels like we can't take the next step. Beating OM is always great, but it's just a good win, not a "national" win. We could REALLY use an NCAA tournament game win too, that gets you noticed. Hopefully it's coming.

I think one tournament win means a lot more to you than it does a bunch of recruits.

Question. Can you name any team off the top of your head that got one of your “national wins” last season? If so, what does it mean this season? How many recruits have jumped on the Beard train since their wins over Alabama and UK? How many people outside of the Rebel nation will even remember those wins in a couple of weeks, much less a couple of months?

MSU got a Q1 road victory yesterday. That plays well in the selection committee room next month.

Wouldn’t you only see the effects of getting national wins the next season. Like when we beat Auburn last year? We are trying to recruit folks from the portal right? And not just folks from Mississippi. So maybe it is better to win with the national spotlight on than be the state champs. I enjoy beating them, but while it’s huge for people in state, out in the wide world, it’s not as impactful as wins over national teams.

Did MSU beat Auburn last year? I honestly don’t remember. And I doubt recruits do either.

Recruits pay attention to money offered and what talent is on the roster and their own starting opportunity. The program and the salesmanship of the coach. That's about it.

What you do in the post season matters and gets you noticed. Recruits watch the tournament like everyone else does. Winning 1-2 NCAA games will get you noticed and absolutely does help with recruiting.
