If Venezuela ever gets straightened out that would be a fantastic place to vacation. Andes mountains on one side, rainforest on another, plus plenty of beaches with beautiful islands. Options.
Venezuela would definitely be cool, but seems like Costa Rica is similar if you painting in broad strokes.

Iran would definitely be cool. History and some beautiful beaches. Plus Persian women are possibly the most beautiful in the world?

The history of both should be taught to people in the US as cautionary tales of the dangers of voting yourself into poverty (although that's apparently a lesson many people can only learn by experience, as lots of people think it just hasn't been done right) and of Islamism (which hopefully people outside of UK and France won't insist on learning by experience).

Authoritarianism & fundamentalism are indeed not good.

The regime under Maduro is still in power. Nothing has changed.

And the Trump administration didn’t get the answer they were looking for from the oil companies. They’ve left Venezuela and aren’t planning on expanding there anytime soon. The big oil companies have invested over a half trillion dollars in infrastructure in Canada for the same quality of oil that the can get in Venezuela. There’s no need to go back to an unstable country when they can just get it in Canada.

N. Korea is really the best. Highly recommend visiting there for about a week or so. See a culture unlike any other on earth. Despite some bad pub they have received, I think you'd find it fascinating and could later say you were one of the few Americans to ever visit there. Seriously, try it out. They truly love Americans and would treat you like royalty.

Getting people to understand authoritarianism is bad isn't generally a problem though. Almost everybody knows authoritarianism is bad. But lots of people can't understand that it's highly likely to be the result once you start voting for the government to take from "them" to give to "you".

Do they though? I see much evidence to the contrary.

Most understand it so well they accuse the first president to even slightly reduce the scope of government power as authoritarian. Granted, all but a small segment of society generally ignore it if they agree with whichever executive or governmental entity is expanding the scope of their power, but at least you don't have people identifying as supporters of authoritarianism they way people openly declare that they are communists or socialists.

Why pretend to be dumb? It's perfectly reasonable to take the position that we should change our immigration laws. Biden's crew tried to unilaterally make us open borders without changing the law. There are truly unfortunate and unpleasant consequences from that. But there's not really a way for Trump to faithfully execute the law and avoid those consequences. And having law enforcement officers directed with enforcing the law actually doing so is not "secrete police demanding papers". It's implementing the stated policy of well known extremists and authoritarians like 1990's Bill Clinton and Joe Biden.

Which President would that be? I'm in my early 60s and I've never seen one do that, except POSSIBLY Reagan.

Is that why we stole their leader?… To keep those three countries out of north and South America?
I can’t keep up with all the claimed justifications. Just wanting to know if this one is the one that is going to stick around as the actual reason.

It’s been like a sample platter so far. Various justifications have been tried out, tasted and most rejected.
Is this the one that tastes best and will be ordered as the main course?

I assumed and MAYBE incorrectly that you were calling Trump Hitler like everyone else!

Maybe I made an @$$ out of u and me (A SS U ME)

No, you just made an a$$ out of yourself. I was calling whatever the 17 this government has become Nazism because I have a brain capable of independent thought and I know enough 20th century European history to recognize the pattern.

If you're wondering, we're on about page 320 of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, getting ready to turn the page to 322, which is the start of Chapter 11, Anschluss: The Rape of Austria (of course, the US version of this chapter will be The Rape of Greenland).

Honestly I think we are more like 1930s France. The left and right so hated each other that they refused to work together for the common good. They were easy pickings when the real Nazis struck.
