I guess you would rather hear Damien Fishback or Joe Dean Jr???? <div>
</div><div>Dykes calls it like it is- and he is telling you that we arent coached well at all without saying it</div>

Dykes offers actual content rather than overused catchphrases. Vitale only tries to market himself and his teams. Dykes gives insight into why things are happening.

I am with you. Listening to him do a State game is just horrible.

He knows nothing about our team so all he does is blame everything on Sidney. He literally ragged on Sidney from the 10 minute mark of second half until the game was over. It is always so obvious that he isn't prepared for the broadcast.

When not disparaging Sidney, he just found different ways to say "when shooting threes you need to have your elbow slightly ahead of your wrist" or "you aren't going to win a game if you can't defend from the 5 spot". Thanks for the analysis, Jimmy.

Jimmy Dykes isn't horrible because of any perceived slight towards State or our players. He is horrible because he brings no insight that isn't obvious for anyone with minimal knowledge of the game. He is horrible because he picks a random subject and fixates on it. He uses basketball terminology that makes anyone with a bit of knowledge cringe. It is telling to see those who actually like the way he calls games.

Dykes is the king of catchphrases.
Terrible point.

I am not saying that I think he hates State, but it would be hard for you or anyone to convince me that he didn't hate Sidney. I have never seen an announcer rag on a single player for such an extended period of time as Dykes did tonight.

The entire two-hour broadcast was Jimmy Dykes ripping Sidney. That's all he did the entire game. And tonight, everytime Vandy scored inside the three-point line, he was right there quick to say how Sidney doesn't play any defense. Give it a rest Jimmy. We know how you feel.

Don't let your hatred of Stans lead to a desire to agree with everyone, so long as they are also anti-Stans; it makes you look likea moron. In a profession prone to unintelligent blowhards, Dykes is easily the worst. He is awful.

Your point was that he doesn't use catchphrases, and it is incorrect.

How you missed him saying 'his strength is his strength' for 2 seasons of Jamont's time at MSU is beyond me. Hell, Dykes had that gimmicky 'all strength team' with Harrangody, Jamont, and some other bruisers.

The last couple years, Dykes gimmick has been what teams are on his plane. Some are in first class, others in coach, and others on standby.

I am surprised this is even being discussed, I really assumed everyone realized Dykes has gimmicky catchphrases that he beats into the ground.

I said he offered content rather than <span style="text-decoration: underline;">overused</span> catchphrases. As you stated, he changes his shtick every now and then. Whereas Dickie V has used the same loud, obnoxious, crap for years. (awesome baby, ptp'er, diaper dandy, etc) You could listen to one of his broadcasts today and one from 20 years ago and the only real difference would be the players names. I think that he mentions that he's blind in one eye every game. Every color commentator uses catch phrases of some sort. That's understood. But no one uses them like Vitale. He is the Chris Berman of basketball.

My point was to disagree with the original post that said that Dykes is worse than Vitale. Anyone that believes that hasn't listen to Vitale lately.

doesn't make him not obnoxious. I, for one, eagerly await his visual demonstration of where first class is on an airplane, and why Kentucky is sitting in it**

When he praised the genius of Stallings for putting Ezeli on Moultrie right before halftime for the first time, obviously because he had no fouls up to that point. Genius move by Stallings, according to Dykes.

Of course, I'm sure it had nothing to do with us playing FOUR GUARDS AND MOULTRIE together at that time. who the hell else was Ezeli going to guard, oh great and wise Dykes??

/I thought it was a good move by Stansbury. Lewis provides little to nothing on O, and we needed to find ways to score.

If I would have taped the game, the only way to watch it would have been on mute. I agree, he's a horrible announcer - or at least what he did annoyed the hell out of me to the point that I think he's worse than some of the others mentioned. This guy kept pointing out things like he IS a coach, and I'm sorry, the game must have changed tons since I played because a lot of what he was pointing out was plain old incorrect. At no point should chubby be out on the perimeter on a guard. That's a mismatch and begs a foul - and judging by how sensitive the refs were from time to time on chubby last night, he'd have fouled out really quick had it actually been played as Dykes was "coaching".

Jimmy'sphrase of the day during the Vandy game was "on ball action". He once used it 3 times in the same sentence.

And his theme of the day was "isVandy going to be the soft team they have been in the 8 or 9 years during the Stallings era, or are they going to play tough D like they have for the lastseveral weeks?". He then proceded to point out - at least 5 times - how Vandy's FG% against had dropped 10% since Elizireturned.

I don't doubt that Elizi's return makes a difference - although they are still soft with him. But did Jimmy ever stop and think the schedule might have helped, too? During the time frame Jimmy kept crowing about, Vandy had playedAuburn, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. You could combine those teams and coaching staffs andthey still would struggle to shoot 40%.

The guy isa turrible analyst.

Sat he kept talking about his lack of help on the high ball screens and his lack of defense. Sidney was doing what he was told and that kept him in the game. Otherwise, he would have drawn the whistle and ridden the pine most of the second half as well. He "waved" at a couple of layups by Vandy players but without a doubt he would have fouled had he shown any tendency to defend the bucket. He had more value to us offensively that he hurt us defensively. One of these days people will realize the value he carries for this team. Without him on Saturday, we lose.

Dykes said "defensively they become a better ball club with Sidney out of the game" We gave up 39 points in the first half with Sidney on the bench and 29 points in the second half with Sidney playing most of the half. But everytime Vandy scored, he dogged Sidney's defense. Ripping Sidney seems to be Dykes' favorite subject.

"This isn't your Daddy's Vanderbilt team". He snuck it in right before a commercial break and I was thinking "Please someone tell him how dumb that sounded". Apparently no one did, I know he used it at least 3-4 times during the game. I understood what he was trying to get at, but he wouldn't even use it in the correct way. "Vanderbilt has two losses in overtime this year, not your daddy's Vanderbilt."<div>
</div><div>I think he would be fine if he talked much less. I think I'm in the minority, but I loved when Bob Knight announced games.</div>

Facts aren't really needed. There's plenty of **** to complain about from Sidney, you don't have to make **** up.

amazing how all these people just have it out for Rick Stansbury...and it has nothing to do with what we say being the truth...
