I despise their program. I despise their fans. I despise their coach. I despise their team. I despise seeing them win. I pretty much despise everything about them.

... But damn, I like Lamar Jackson.

Put a mark on my UK fan card if you have to, but that kid is some kind of special. I find myself rooting for him to either get sacked or make a special play, and he usually seems to do the latter. Then I become frustrated with myself for even allowing my mind to entertain the thought of enjoying anything UL, so I have to battle back the internal conflict. I feel like it's comparable to how some UL fans may have felt about Karl Towns playing here. Special player that is likeable, but plays for a team you can't stand.

That said, nothing would make me happier than walking into Papa John's with them just one win shy of making the playoffs and crushing their dreams like a grape.

I agree....I root against UK in everything....I think the rivalry is fun....but I enjoyed watching Cobb at UK...I enjoyed watching Ullis play...there have been many more...the hate doesn't and shouldn't be aimed at the kids....

This is probably a sin to some of you, but I actually don't hate UL. Never have and probably never will. Indiana and Notre Dame on the other hand...despise. For me, disliking another program has a lot to do with the fans. I didn't grow up in KY, so didn't grow up around UL fans. I went to catholic school in Ohio around a TON of ND fans..despise ND for this. I also grew up around a lot of IU fans...despise them for the same reason. I won't ever root for UL, but have no problem with them.

I'm sure that they have several likable kids...

ALL of these kids for both programs are just trying to succeed.

The hate should always stay between the fans.

Agree, and I don't hate the players. None of them. I don't even hate the fans. In fact, I intentionally didn't use the word hate for that reason. I just have a strong disliking for the program in general, but none of the people individually considering I don't even know them. I think most sensible fans would agree, and I think most sensible UL fans feel the same about UK.

I've been a UK fan my entire life, and I favor football over basketball. Say what you want, but you can't rationally minimize what is going on at UofL right now in regards to football. That team is LEGIT and as bad as I hate to say it....fun to watch. They are a serious contender for the playoff.

uavel is a dumpster, a successful dumpster as of late, but it still smells and is full of trash. I actually graduated from uavel and maintain that opinion. I root for them to lose at everything, it doesn't matter what it is. Hell, I like hearing that they might be audited, just because I root against the Institution at its very core. I could care less if it somehow sullies my degree, I've been long gone and have gotten well more than I paid for out of that degree (no thanks to the mostly terrible professors i had in the business school). And, with all of that said, the fans are the ones that have made me this way - not the teams, the players, the coaches, or the institution. Growing up in Jefferson County, the epicenter of all uavel - UK fan hate, as a UK fan will test your fandom for sure. Many of my friends are uavel fans and they know that i hate their program, but they hate UK equally, so it balances out.

The opposite of love is indifference. You can care extremely for or against something, but to be indifferent means it all.
To hate is give them some sort of power whether that be to cause a reaction, feeling, emotion. I choose to not care.

Don't despise them, emulate them! Get decent players and coach them up! If Western can be coached up, then we can, too. I remember Baylor, Texas tech, Colorado, Oregon, Louisville, Houston, Florida St., Florida, and Clemson when UK could beat them all! Coaching is the secret. We all know cases where 2* and 3* players can be molded into a powerhouse! Don't forget, Wisconsin was the doormat of the Big 10 for decades and then they decided to change it with coaching, mostly. It can be done!

I have always found it amusing that you only post about UofL and never anything about UK. You must live a very sad life Grover

I think its absolutely insane to get so caught up in something as trivial as college athletics that you actually hate players, fans, coaches or entire universities. Its ridiculous. I have far too many UK friends and even used to work for UK to actually hate the school. I go to a handful of UK football games and have even been to a midnight madness at UK just because it was free and I was bored. I wish Rick would emulate a lot of things Cal does and I'm sure a lot of fans wish Stoops would emulate a lot things Petrino does.

Fans from both sides make it difficult at times but most of the time that's internet tough guy talk and trolling as I've rarely met a single UK fan in person that I would describe as having "hated." If you discount drunken bro students I'm not sure I've met a UK fan that I would say I've had an unpleasant experience with aside from playful banter. Although there are fans out there on both sides who are just miserable people, I admit that.

Its a game...if you're so wrapped up in it that you're out here wishing bad things upon another program or upon players and coaches then I politely suggest you take a step back and rethink a few things.

I don't hate UL but I don't deal with them very often , when we don't play I pretty much ignore what they do . Unless it's a scandal then I trash them , otherwise I don't care if they win a fb title or not .

No one, that I have seen, argues that they aren't good. They may be great but what does that have to do with despising them? dUKe has had some great BB teams, do you like them too?

My best friend WAS a U of L fan until I saw all the jabs he took at UK on his twitter. He hid his hatred from me for years, but went nuts on twitter and I saw it. I don't do twitter but was forwarded his bile and venom. Was quite a shock at the time.

I hate everything about them. But they might be the best team in the country. Lamar Jackson is a serious football player and should rightfully so be in the running for the stiff arm trophy.

Either you haven't read the thread, or aren't addressing me. I'm not sure which one, but I stated that I DID NOT hate anything, and certainly not any individual people. I wish no ill will to any of them, aside from a dramatic hail mary as time expires that luckily finds the hand of one of our receivers to knock them out of the playoffs during the last game of the season (assuming by some miracle that we are within a TD of them).

If anyone here lives in Louisville then they know it's pretty much impossible to NOT have a strong dislike for anything UofL if you're a UK fan. I do know some reasonable UofL fans but they're far and few between. Let's just say the stereotype of their fan base is spot on. Anybody that calls theirselves the Bird Gang deserves to be mocked and ridiculed.

No, I wasn't talking about you specifically I was speaking in generalities. I see a lot of posters on here and on ULs board who are so ate up with jealousy and/or hatred for their rivals that it affects their daily lives and I find that insane. Its a game between two schools for nothing more than bragging rights.

Agreed. I hate uavel (the fans & program) the way you hate something very annoying. You don't hate it enough to kill it, or bring harm to it, just enough to talk badly about it, and avoid it at all costs. Many of my friends are uavel fans. We are not going to end our friendship over it.

Most fans despise the rival because the fans won't agree on specific points. I never expect a Louisville fan to be convinced of the points I try to make and stopped trying years ago. At the same time, I will never concede to the points they try to make.
That is what sets up the animosity. For the most part each are good people.
It just cracks me up watching any 2 rival fans try to convince the other why their team is better. And then using that as a reason to dislike the other.
