It was in the Roanoke paper today that he was saying that the state could keep it's subsidy due to the political football that the legislature was playing. What I want to know, with all the money he owes people, why in the world would the state give that much to a billionaire? I know that Thumper is going to chime in about the economic benefit that the state receives from this, but I doubt that it's more than a wash. I'm pro capitalism, but this crony crap that has been going on with states giving incentives for companies to move to new locations or paying money to fake companies, happened here in Va, is what's wrong with govts. NY is advertising about how low their taxes are now. Don't you think that should be apparent to most people since businesses have been leaving for decades?

Supposedly it's for marketing businesses to the state. They wine / dine officials during the week of the GBC. is it money well spent? that's highly debatable

He cancelled the concerts this year too. I knew this **** would happen with him running. I'm gonna vote Cole just to get the tournament back.

The tournament is going on as usual of course but it's free to get in which is nice unless they raise the parking fee a lot.

If he were elected would he refuse to pay vendors of state contracts and then try and negotiate later saying it was all just a misunderstanding?[winking]

I definitely see $1.75 million in advertising for 3-4 days. Is there any event that gives any where near the positive coverage of the state?

When the state gives $1.75 mill per year to this tournament, the state should collect that much in tax payments to the state. The rest of the state shouldn't be burdened with giving cheating Jim, more money.

Justice turned down the money, the state won't be providing the money this year or probably ever again.

Only because of the heat the legislature has put on him. Why was he getting it in the first place? That money should have gone to people the sob has cheated all his life.

Not sure I follow your reasoning about advertising a product should be paid for by a state tax? I don't have to pay a tax here in SC to watch the Masters, Doral or any other PGA event. Is this just a hard-on for Jim Justice that you have, or do you not see a benefit derived by the state to advertise the event for 4 days?

Two reasons: I think he wanted any positive press available for turning down the money and then making it free to watch the tourney and second, since the governor and legislature are flipping over rocks looking for money to balance the budget, the tourney would likely have lost the funding anyway.

Why should state tax dollars be used to that extent? I could see a $100,000 gift but, 1.75 mill every year since he started it? I'd like to see how much money other states put into a PGA golf tournament? I know Harbor town put up some money because the PGA was going to leave. The guy owes tons of money and I do have a problem with extremely rich people stiffing small people and the state. I pay my taxes and debts. I believe in capitalism. He has benefitted greatly but he is a crook.

Of course I do not know what a reasonable amount would be for the advertisement given. WVU advertising class suggested two factors would be time and the population served. I know neither. As I remember the initial agreement was some start-up money to aid in organization on the event and WV would receive appropriate coverage in advertising. I think the process sorta followed WVU athletic event coverage in exchange for advertising the state. Don't remember original terms rumored.

I know Jim had a reputation for slow paying his obligations many years ago and coal industry was a bit dissatisfied with him. But the last I heard about him was from a pprincipal of a county school who leased several hundred acres to him to farm wheat. Alan said all obligations were paid promptly as contracted. Looked forward to long term association with JJ.

You seem to have a hard on for Jim all the sudden. His not paying his bills shows a lack of integrity for sure. Of course, he could be like Trump and just declare bankruptcy.

Then do it. I have an accountant friend who has a client in Bedford that he owes $180,000 to. I know somebody else in the coal business who will only do COD. I defend the right to make lots of money, I'm a capitalist, but you should pay your bills. As far as trump goes, I believe he's done it on about 4 of his corporations. Not good. I had a player lined up to play for us for one year but the coach at Radford wouldn't grant him a release. I really hoped that he could play for wVU. His scoring avg last year was 73.5.

One example is not the norm. He was sued by the landscaping company for over a million. He said it was a misunderstanding. How do you misunderstand a million dollar bill?

It's not all of a sudden, ask Thumper. I hate rich people taking advantage of smaller people. He hands out hundred dollar bills to people in the stands when people who have done real work for him aren't paid.

My Seminole trip was awesome. My bud did swim a lap in the pool. Played Medalist the next day-we were first out. While I was on 11 green, two carts pull up to 12 tee and two guy hit drives. My first thought was wtf do these guys think they are. It was Tiger and his caddy Joe Lacava. I didn't complain. It was surreal.

Did they make you play faster than you wanted to? We played in 35 mph winds and made for a difficult day.

No. We had the run of the place. It was their last day of the season. Which was cool particularly becaseu the pro shot was trying to get rid of everything. They had a buy one get one deal on everything. I asked if they'd do a buy one get two. They accepted. :) They young asst pro working the pro shot was originally from Morgantown. We knew a lot of the same people. He's heading to work the rest of the year at Oakmont. He's on a good career path. Anyway, those greens complexes at Seminole were brutal. It blew but not as hard as it did the day you played. I've never seen so many balls hit greens and end up in bunkers. Probably the hardest 6800 yards I've ever played.

I didn't mean to mislead you by offering it as a norm. He is simply a person I had an association with who told me he was leasing to Jim Justice, from WV and went beyond the contract to keep property in good shape. I asked him if he was familiar with Jim's history. He said he was impressed with him in business and he was paid promptly as called for in contract. Just thought I should pass along the good word I was given.

Sounds like you are a capitalist in your definition. Trump played within the rules when 4 of his ventures went belly up. When those individual companies could not pay their bills, they filed bankrupt. Even in capitalism, there are no assurance that a company will not go broke. The reason for the law is to give person a new start. I know very few successful business people who did not go broke on the way up. It would be criminal to remove/prevent these folks from business ventures going forward. The Donald made subsequent capital investments that bore fruit. The people who lost money to a bankruptcy knew there was a possibility when they allowed credit. That is always a risk.

Were they rolling about 13 on the stimp? I picked up on 18. I hit it in the right bunker, against that wind with a three wood from 205, took two to get out and into the bunker across the other side. I hit the next bunker shot back into the bunker I had just been in and I just picked up. Brutal is a good term. If I had to do it over, I would have layed up in that wind and then hit a wedge to the middle and tried to two putt for bogey. One of my classmates is a member at Oakmont and he said if I came up, I would have to play it for two days that one day wouldn't be enough.

We played in 3.5 hours. It wasn't a fun round when you had never played the course. I did birdie several holes and I birdied Hogan's favorite hole to practice on, #5. Pin was in the front left and close to edge, pretty good shot if I do say so in those winds.

Yes, they were that fast. How about the 17th in the photo? Table top green from about 180. I hit it on the right center of the green and ended up in the bunker. No wonder Hogan was so good. If you can master that place, you can play anywhere.

Hogan's favorite was the 6th. That is a good birdie. Probably best hole on the course.
