What I want to know, with all the money he owes people, why in the world would the state give that much to a billionaire? I know that Thumper is going to chime in about the economic benefit that the state receives from this, but I doubt that it's more than a wash. I'm pro capitalism, but this crony crap that has been going on with states giving incentives for companies to move to new locations or paying money to fake companies, happened here in Va, is what's wrong with govts. NY is advertising about how low their taxes are now. Don't you think that should be apparent to most people since businesses have been leaving for decades?

Not sure I follow your reasoning about advertising a product should be paid for by a state tax? I don't have to pay a tax here in SC to watch the Masters, Doral or any other PGA event. Is this just a hard-on for Jim Justice that you have, or do you not see a benefit derived by the state to advertise the event for 4 days?

Two reasons: I think he wanted any positive press available for turning down the money and then making it free to watch the tourney and second, since the governor and legislature are flipping over rocks looking for money to balance the budget, the tourney would likely have lost the funding anyway.

I'd like to see how much money other states put into a PGA golf tournament? I know Harbor town put up some money because the PGA was going to leave. The guy owes tons of money and I do have a problem with extremely rich people stiffing small people and the state. I pay my taxes and debts. I believe in capitalism. As I remember the initial agreement was some start-up money to aid in organization on the event and WV would receive appropriate coverage in advertising. I think the process sorta followed WVU athletic event coverage in exchange for advertising the state. Don't remember original terms rumored.

But the last I heard about him was from a pprincipal of a county school who leased several hundred acres to him to farm wheat. Alan said all obligations were paid promptly as contracted. Then do it. I have an accountant friend who has a client in Bedford that he owes $180,000 to. I know somebody else in the coal business who will only do COD. I defend the right to make lots of money, I'm a capitalist, but you should pay your bills. As far as trump goes, I believe he's done it on about 4 of his corporations. Not good. I had a player lined up to play for us for one year but the coach at Radford wouldn't grant him a release. I really hoped that he could play for wVU. His scoring avg last year was 73.5.

My Seminole trip was awesome. My bud did swim a lap in the pool. Played Medalist the next day-we were first out. While I was on 11 green, two carts pull up to 12 tee and two guy hit drives. My first thought was wtf do these guys think they are. It was Tiger and his caddy Joe Lacava. I didn't complain. It was surreal.

My Seminole trip was awesome. My bud did swim a lap in the pool. Played Medalist the next day-we were first out. While I was on 11 green, two carts pull up to 12 tee and two guy hit drives. My first thought was wtf do these guys think they are. It was Tiger and his caddy Joe Lacava. I didn't complain. It was surreal.

They had a buy one get one deal on everything. I asked if they'd do a buy one get two. They accepted. They young asst pro working the pro shot was originally from Morgantown. We knew a lot of the same people. He's heading to work the rest of the year at Oakmont. He's on a good career path. Anyway, those greens complexes at Seminole were brutal. It blew but not as hard as it did the day you played. I've never seen so many balls hit greens and end up in bunkers. Probably the hardest 6800 yards I've ever played.

I didn't mean to mislead you by offering it as a norm. He is simply a person I had an association with who told me he was leasing to Jim Justice, from WV and went beyond the contract to keep property in good shape. I asked him if he was familiar with Jim's history. He said he was impressed with him in business and he was paid promptly as called for in contract. Just thought I should pass along the good word I was given.

Sounds like you are a capitalist in your definition. Trump played within the rules when 4 of his ventures went belly up. When those individual companies could not pay their bills, they filed bankrupt. Even in capitalism, there are no assurance that a company will not go broke. The reason for the law is to give person a new start. I know very few successful business people who did not go broke on the way up. It would be criminal to remove/prevent these folks from business ventures going forward. The Donald made subsequent capital investments that bore fruit. The people who lost money to a bankruptcy knew there was a possibility when they allowed credit. That is always a risk.

Yes, they were that fast. How about the 17th in the photo? Table top green from about 180. I hit it on the right center of the green and ended up in the bunker. No wonder Hogan was so good. If you can master that place, you can play anywhere.
