I didn't like the way the jumbtron was used.

1. I ddin't like the loud music before the game.
2. I didn't lke the long commercial setup for replays that meant we didn't get to watch a lot of them. Can't they run the commecial at the bottom as the replay runs?
3. I didn't like the lack of stats and scores.
4. I didn't like the fact that our announcer has zero personality. Why can't we listen to the Netork's pregame show instead of that pointless music.
5. I could go on, but basically, I look at the jumbotron as a negative until they figure out a way to use it that makes the game more, not less, enjoyable.

Loud music is terrible. We wouldn't want to create a game day atmosphere before our games start. We should just mute the jumbotron, that would make everyone in the stadium much more excited for the games.

We had no stats except for the halftime summary. No scores. The polls mentioned above. It could be great, but for me it was annoying. So it's not a negative, it's too big I guess to be a negative, but it didn't add much to the football game for me. I do think it could.

Agree there. I think all the need to do is shorten the ad flash before the replay
3. I didn't like the lack of stats and scores.
Not sure when they would fit these in since the screen is busy showing live plays, replays, and then commercials (which pay for the scoreboard) during timeouts
4. I didn't like the fact that our announcer has zero personality.
I prefer Hank Flick, but admittedly just because he's what I'm use to. I think the new guy has done a good job at generic-PA-guy-you-won't-remember-from-the-game, which is what his stated intention is - to keep the atmosphere about the game and not about the PA guy
Why can't we listen to the Netork's pregame show instead of that pointless music.
Since we've got an ESPN deal and all, I'd like to see them play somebody else's game while we are waiting on our's.

Maybe mix the music with the pregame interview with the coach. Why just play song after song. Isn't there anybody out there who can fire up the crowd with information and entertainment mixed with music? I just think we could do a lot better. Like 50 times better.

"You cannot be serious." That jumbotron kicks absolute ***!!!!! Every single game I have had people comment and compliment on it. They are certainly tweaking the volume. This past week the volume in my section was much, much lower than the GT game. It actually needed to be louder this past weekend. In the GT game, I actually felt it got close to being too loud, not quite, but close. I do believe it is louder in the upper-deck. But yes, the jumbotron creates an amazing game-day atmosphere. Hell, when I went to MSU we didn't even have the minitron.

and when the music sucks.......it sure doesn't need to be loud as hell. I don't mind loud music, but not this crap. I guess if I want to get there early to watch pregame warm ups, I can wear ear plugs or take an ipod.

I went with a friend from Baton Rouge to the LSU game who hadn't been to a game in Starkville in 4 years and he said that it was unbelievable the positive difference in the atmosphere both inside and outside the stadium after 4 years.

But it seems like you're saying that the jumbotron is awesome because it is jumbo. Do you really think we're doing a good job with it? I just think it could be a lot better.

He said that the WHOLE experience was so much better...jumbotron included. Does that mean there aren't places where we can improve? No. But it also doesn't mean that because we can improve that we just need to *****. There is a difference between criticism and constructive criticism.

That's up to the effen constructor. I'm sorry, but I am trying to be constructive. I think the whole setup, esp. the replays, needs a fresh look. And I think the idea that the quality of the anouncer doesn't matter is absurd. I don't know the guy, but what he does is not the kind of stuff that fires people up.

It's great to have the jumbotron, but it should be used to its potential. It's got to do more than just be big. How about some graphic effects, some slow mo, some words to the crowd (DEFENSE) Some fan-sensitive content (football fans) intermittent yardage totals for team and individuals (and tackles, etc) Some real fun on the screen. I know it ain't easy, but I think it can be done. How bout a little split screen for different replay angles simultaneously. How about some hot babe shots (nah, just kidding)

kinks need to be worked out. The basic premise and ideas are there for a very good, fluid gameday experience but it just seems like everything is not in sync yet. You have minor miscues here and there, things coming at awkward times, the band not playing at the right times, etc. Another thing, I kind of wish we would cool it a little with honoring some person or group every chance we get during the game. It sort of diminishes in the honor of being honored in the first place if you are 1 of 10 that game. It's a great idea, but I think we go a little overboard with it. Finally, I wish we would use less space on the board for actual video and devote some to live stats including passying yardage, rushing yardage, total yards, etc., much like Auburn does. AND put a freaking playclock on the board, no need to look 2 different places for that kind of info.

Anyone who looks at the jumbotron as a negative is blind, stupid, or both. And is just bitching.

so you would rather during pre game warm ups hear interviews then music? im sure our players would get so much more pumped up hearing jack interviewing somebody then lil wayne. My advice is if you wanna hear interviews bring some headphones and you can listen to the radio pre-game show.

with the music. Now that seems a little silly to me. It's totally meant to fire up the fans, not the players. The players are already fired up, and the crowd will add to that, but most of them have probably had a lot of musical inspirantion from their ipods before they got to the stadium. Then it's showtime for them. I don' think the music on the jumbotron is needed to fire them up at that point.

I believe they actually do show other games and Gameday on the big board but cut it at about 40 till and the team is about to come out to start warm-ups at that point. My point of reference is actually seeing ESPN Gameday on it as I was walking up to the Stadium about 10:15 last Saturday and a guy I talked to on Monday said his little brother who was in the student section about 90 minutes before was telling him about the 2:30 game on for the fans who were already in the stadium to watch last week.

Had to wait until halftime was almost over. I like the live stats idea, but modified to the situation. For example, if Florida is outgaining us 500 to 60, turn em off for awhile. But whe the game is hot and competivie, they add a lot to the experience and understanding of what's going on on the field.

They put things up there like defense or "make some noise". And they posted the halftime stats and the scores scroll at the bottom. Do you need some crayons to go with your coloring book?

is terrible. Listening to him stumble and fumble through words is awful. I would like to have Flick back, not because of preference, because he is much better.

Not all the time but sometimes.

Like the cbs nfl broadcasts in which the player's stats for the type play made are shown at the top of the screen. Maybe a different network.

negatives: The PA guy is terrible, the endless commercials are ridiculous (I understand the need for them, but we take it to a level no live event should be at), SOUND DISTRIBUTION (my tickets are in the sky deck and it's deafening up there, but last game I sat on the lower level and you can barely hear it)

negative in your earlier post. Sometimes the audio is off sync, there is still a lack of creativity with coordinating audio/visual, but they are getting better. Lack of stats sucks. Actually, late in the game they flashed some stats up there that were about 30 minutes old. It was showing Dixon with like 80 rushing yards in the 4th quarter.

The louder the better.

I complained on the board last week that I thought that it was too loud. It was still loud, but toned down a slight bit this week. I can live with it and as I have said before, that LSU game had the best atmosphere that I have seen at any of the MSU home games that I have watched in the last 25 years.

About the only thing I agree with in your post is that our PA guy sucks. He's terrible, I hate listening to him, and I think he detracts from the gameday experience. I would love to have Flick back.

I have a theory that (no matter how fired up the players are BEFORE they leave the locker room) if they come out and we're playing Patsy Cline, barbershop quartet, Dean Martin, or whatever, they might lose a little of the adrenalin/momentum I'd like them to have for the opening kickoff.

It's just a theory, but I would have to know what music you're thinking about to fire up the fans.
