If Coach34 was AD of Florida, Billy Donovan would not have 2 national titles. He would have been fired for only reaching 1 out of 3 goals.

he had made a Sweet 16 previously...He is playing a national schedule every season (unlike Ricky who averages 4 games a season against major college teams not in the SEC), and making the Tourney EVERY season. You get a little leeway when that happens....

But when you are like Ricky, not meeting any of the goals, and NOT playing a national schedule, what is he really accomplishing?

The 4th best SEC program the last 10 years:

1. should have a Sweet 16 appearance
2. should play nationally recognizable teams every year
3. be a perennial NCAA Tourney team

Since when have we been in the top 1/3 of the SEC in ANYTHING? Baseball in the 80s and basketball in the early 60s is pretty much it, and the real truth is nobody else in the SEC (outside of Kentucky basketball) gave a **** about either of those 2 sports at the time.

Edited to add that for that matter, we've rarely been outside the BOTTOM 1/3 of the SEC in much of anything.

have gotten us an NIT bid and an NCAA 9 seed- not much to brag about. The SEC in basketball is not what it is in baseball or football. SEC basketball is 3 good programs and 9 average programs. Hell, Mississippi has 4 West titles and a Sweet 16 in the last 11 years according to OP and their program is dogshit.

Not exactly sure what your post is supposed to mean. It sounds a lot like you are saying that we are MState and have always sucked so we should be happy just kind of sucking at basketball. I am not a huge Stans fan and really don't think he can coach worth a damn, but he is a good recruiter. I don't think there is any chance that he is going to get canned but i certainly don't have a problem with people that dream of a better coach that leads us to become a better program. And for those that say we should be happy being mediocre because we are Mstate, well, I wish they would find a new team to cheer for. I certainly don't think that our new AD is shooting for the lower 1/3 of the SEC in any sport.

Recruiting to MSU is a hell of a lot harder and we are trailing a couple of programs. I might be willing to give Stans more slack since he has mostly built the success at MSU. He has the biggest majority of NCAA tourney bids in our history. I just don't know who we could get besides someone like Bruce Pearl that would do better. LT didn't support Stans so we are behind in facilities. If we get a practice facility it should help recruiting. If Stans can't do anything then, I might lean on him harder.

of being the bag holder. I know this much, the Ninja has hard pressed feelings for the Stans. Being that we've all recently seen of the cat-like reflexes of the Ninja, expect Stans to be doing his best impression of Llewelyn Moss while the Ninja will be doing his best impression of Chigurh if things don't improve. And he won't be given the chance to flip a coin.</p>

is doing a pretty good job. The inconvenient truth is that we are at a competitive disadvantage compared to most of the rest of the conference. Few schools are more remote or harder to get to than MSU, and only Vandy has less money than we do. Not to mention, we have less home-state population to draw from than most other schools. We should never just be satisfied with what we have, but we also have to be realistic about what our chances are to do better if we do make a change. And if we were to get rid of Stans, there's a chance we might hire the next Billy Donovan. But there's a hell of a lot better chance we'd wind up with the next Cliff Ellis or the next Ron Jirsa.

In the seasons that we have won our last four division titles, the conference has ranked #1, #2, #2, and #4 in RPI. Winning a division in a conference rated that highly isn't exactly like winning the SWAC.

I've never been to Fayetteville, so I cant comment on that, but I don't think Auburn could be considered more remote than Starkville. It's 20-30 minutes from a large city (Montgomery), and unlike Starkville it is right off the interstate.

Accessible from Atlanta or Montgomery on the emerging I-85 corridor. Also from Birmingham from 280. The only way Auburn is remote is lack of a commercial airport. Got to go to at least Montgomery for that, but most choose Atlanta since it is 95 miles to the terminal.

really? Arkansas is in the second largest population area in the state. it is in the wealthiest part of the state. it is in what i believe is that fastest growing part of the state. the amount of industry that is there is staggering.
