"if Coach Leach were still around, we would be excited about football season coming up this year"

I wouldn't, because I hate what football has become for every team, not just ours. A bunch of paid free agents that are here today and gone tomorrow with a 'what have you done for me lately' attitude and no damns, sh(i)ts, or 17s to give about it

**** Nah man. You know the drill. The Air Raid sucked. Run the ball and play smash mouth. Leach was overrated, and that 9 win season was a fluke. Leach couldn’t recruit, and never would be able to recruit at any serious level. At the end of the day Leach was not a good coach and was just funny. ****

Me too, Peep. I can't get excited for college football when there is no amateur student athlete on the field. It just ain't college football.

Love or hate his system and method of recruiting at least he would have a puncher's chance against SEC teams.
The story about reading "the little engine that could"... someone should have read the story to him.

His offense was a little engine if there ever was......

Saban laughed at that garbage.

I understand that NIL and the portal have greatly diminished offseason coverage and recruiting is virtually impossible to follow. That part has changed but when the ball is kicked off and games are being played, what is so different about it? A great slate of SEC matchups on an October Saturday is every bit as entertaining as it was 10 years ago imo. Obviously everyone has their own opinion. I just don't get how the games are now unwatchable.

Coach Leach would have figured out to portal and would have kept us reliant, plus there was the entertainment factor. How’d that ‘run da ball’ element work out for Arnett??

He could win.

We won't win.

Recruiting is another story. For the first time, we had a shot at more than a couple of skill players, not so many big uglies. Then we set ourselves back a decade with our recruiting efforts. Then came the NIL & Portal. We will see even more of a separation of money in CFB.

“In ten seasons at Texas Tech (Big 12), he had three 9 win seasons and one 11 win season. In eight seasons at Washington State (Pac 12), he had two 9 win seasons and one 11 win season.

At those two stops, he had 9 or more wins seven out of eighteen seasons, or 39% of the time.

In his final season. 2023, State finished 9-4. Sadly he was not on the sidelines for that 9th win. I fully believe if he had been able to coach ten years at State he would have had multiple 9 win or better seasons there too.”

That’s a post from SEC rant where Leach is 100% respected and you won’t see some of the idiotic posts you see on here from the peanut gallery. They would be laughed off the board.

Honestly, with the schedules last and this year, probably a little more than we are now but not much.

We’d have an 11 win season either under our belt or in the near future. This is indisputable. He did it at every stop before he died. So yeah we’d be excited.
Yep. I think 17 starters returned off that 9-4 team. Sawyer Robertson is projected to be a first or early second round draft pick by the nfl and Seth Davis would have been electric in Leachs offense.

BTW what’s the highest draft pick for a qb from State ? Sawyer has a good shot to go in the first round. He might have won a few games here.

I remember him being ridiculed because “Leach didn’t know how to evaluate quarterbacks “. Haha

I don’t think Leach was going to be coaching this year even if he was still alive. I know he dealt with health issues his last year here and after he passed some media guys said he was only planning on coaching 1 more year even if he had not died. But yea, if he were still our coach we would be winning football games, no doubt about that. I still think we are going to be better this year than most expect.

Anyone who takes an even cursory look at Leach's career knows that we would have at least matched Mullen's success here, probably exceeded it.

I'm not saying he would have ever had a multi-year playoff run, but he would have gotten us in there at least once by 2030, just like he would have gotten Texas Tech and Washington State in at least once had the 12-team format existed when he coached there.

leach Put fear in Texas, ou, a and m and OSU back when the big 12 south was the toughest division in the country.. he did it with 2 and 3 star players as tech was a small program that was very hard to recruit to. He was a damn good coach. He took a 9-40 wsu program the smallest poorest school in p5 to 11-2 and beat the snot out of Oregon and USC.

We have a segment of our fan base that is dumber than dirt. There were weekly polls on Genes page begging to fire Leach in 2022 when the team was 5-1 on its way to the fourth best season in school history. You reap what you sew.
