what the 17 does Tebow do? I mean he's got Urban 17ing Meyer tearing up at his press conference. This guy is by all accounts an adroid designed specifically to win football games, yet Tebow has him blubbering at the microphone. This isn't the first person I've seen speachless/misty eyed when asked about Tebow. I just dont get it.

Tim Tebow is simply a creation of the media, and by and large a product more of Florida's outstanding skill players than any skill he actually has. He gets credit for it, but as we are already seeing in the NFL with Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy, and will see with Aaron Hernandez, Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, and Moody in the very near future.

I shudder to think about what Florida's offense would have been with Colt McCoy. It would have been unreal. Maybe even better than when Spurrier was there.

I think the media eats him up because he has a squeaky clean image- ie, missionary, claims to be a virgin, and the fact that he isn't all about the NFL. Of course, that's probably at least in part because he isn't going to make it in the NFL except as a role player Wildcat QB/Fullback. He's essentially Mike Alstott with a decent arm.

The media could make Mother Theresa look like Jack the Ripper if they wanted and also make the biggest turd on the planet look like Mother Theresa.

any QB who holds a rushing touchdown record over the likes of Herschel Walker and others is pretty 17'n impressive... Of course he has/had a lot of talent around him most great players do... He gets a praised by the media at any chance they get no doubt but to say that he is a creation of the media is selling him short...

As for Tebow's path forward, is being a missionary a lesser path than playing in the NFL, had he the opportunity?

Sounds like a personal decision, to me.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
(love that line)

I think there is some sincerity to this spirituality role that he plays. Add that to the drama of football, national championships, injury, comebacks - it's like a movie.

There's a congruency with Tim Tebow. What he believes, what he says and what he does line up. They agree. On a subconscious level, people notice that. Some people are constantly looking for any inconsistency. Looking for him to fail. Because that would give them a reason not to believe. And not to follow. But, in the meantime, some do believe and follow. Both groups, those looking for him to fail and those believing the story, are the people most likely to be moved emotionally. To hate or to love. Either way, they've been moved emotionally.

The rest of us are just watching a football game. So, we don't get it. Others get caught up in the character and the drama.

I must admit The Speech after the Mississippi loss last year made me pay attention. I wasn't teary eyed or anything. But, to see The Speech and then see him go out and do it .... Yeah, I can understand why some people get emotional.

It's a real life drama. Urban Meyer is sitting in the center of the front row. I'm sure the impact on him is a little more intense than it is for the rest of us.

Sure Joe Sixpack fan can get caught up in emotion, but Urban freakin Meyer? I recall Croom's tearful "they have so much character" quote following an Egg Bowl. That's different I think - a team nobody gave a chance to win ending up going bowling.

WTF did Meyer do? I haven't seen it.

Regardless....I have been unimpressed with Tebow this year. He runs the ball really well. He stays composed. But he's not that great of a passer...which is kinda required for QBs. I'm not saying he sucks or anything...just that he's not some superman of a QB from a passer standpoint.

How could a creation of the media have that much effect on his coaches and teammates, guys who see him every day? For all the talent Florida has (and had last year) on offense, every one of those guys would tell you that Tebow was the unquestioned leader, heart and soul of that team. He's not my favorite player, and I'm as sick of the media love for him as anyone, but he's one of the best college players we've seen in a long long time. You're probably right about the NFL though.

I've heard of 40% of the movie theatres crying over this new vampire movie, I have no opinions when it comes to crying anymore. As funny as this sounds, Crying has lost its luster

to me isn't all that impressive given how they use him. He's basically a short-yardage back who also happens to play QB so you don't have to sub him in and out (except his freshman year). He's an above average passer in the perfect system for his strengths and limitations (when he has great skill players around him). Their offense is good, but nothing overly special since Percy Harvin left.

Tebow is not just a phenomenal college football player but also and incredible person and leader. I know most are sick of the coverage he gets but he is potentially one of the greatest college football players ever so it's a given that he is going to get alot of media coverage.

here's the difference.

Packer set his records on three differing circumstances.

1. He did it in 3 seasons
2. He did it less games per season
3. His post season stats were not counted during any of those seasons

Sorta looking like apples and oranges with that record.

he does so much in the community that is unheard of it's ridiculous. It got to the point that he was basically given a handler to keep him under control because he wouldn't say no to any request that was made.

I for one am a huge Tim Tebow fan, I do not border on the obsession that UF fans have for him though. But I, like many of you, would if he were a MSU player.

if my 4 year old came up to me and said dad, I want to grow up and be Tim Tebow, I would have no problem with that at all. He is a great person (which is getting harder and harder to find these days), that happens to be a great football player and role model.

he did a lot of the heavy lifting to get them to that point as well. I look at Tebow like LenDale White in TN last year. He had a ton of rushing TDs but he was a situational player

Phenomenal athlete.
Plays in a system perfectly suited to his skill set.
Surrounded by talent.
Good guy.

Perfect situation for him at the college level. Of course he's going to shatter records. I get tired of hearing about him 24/7 as much as the next guy, but I'd rather see him being put on a pedestal by the media versus somebody that has a criminal record a mile long and barely speaks english.

didn't have a hand in getting UF down close?

Tebow's a great college player. I find it unusual that anyone downplays the TD record.

the only guy guaranteed to touch the ball every play. When he has Percy Harvin, he's superhuman. When he doesn't, he's just another good player. I guarantee he's going to finish in the top 3 of the Heisman voting even though he should be somewhere around probably 5-7.

I meant that literally. Why did Meyer tear up about Tebow? Did Tebow, upon interrupting a press conference, run up and tell Urban, "I LOVE YOU MAN!"

No idea what caused this.

Yeah. Guys like Tebow are 17ing everywhere. I think Mullen needs to sign 3 or 4 this year.

They prolly think of him as a big brother, and a very positive roll model. Tebow has prolly had a personal effect on UM himself. Perhaps he turned the corner from being a Football Coaching Borg to more of a real human.

ppl like Tebow are refreshing in a sport dominated by TO's, Ocho's, Dez Bryant's and other Prima Donnas. Tebow's about team many other blowhards are about them and he could be your own kid or hope of what your kid would turn out to be.

It so nice to hear an interview w/him or McCoy and not here "ya know whut I'm sayin' "ever 3rd sentence

Deeply spiritual people affect people. And they have more of an impact on those in tune to spiritual matters; others, less so.

i personally think he's hiding something. what it is?... i don't know. i could say some stuff, just to make fun of him.. but that wouldn't be very mature of me. i just can't stand the fact that all these people are drinking the tim tebow kool aid. and to be honest, it sickens me. he's a good football player, did a lot of good for his school and the sport. just graduate and move on, tim.

Very few attain this in college. This is someone who's bigger than a talented athlete, all-conference, or even all-American...this is someone who you take your kid to the game so he can say 50 years from now, "I saw Tim Tebow play".

Few players attain this. Nile Kinnick at Iowa (who probably gave the best Heisman speech in history, and might've been President if he hadn't died in a plane crash in World War II), Billy Cannon at LSU, Choo Choo Justice at North Carolina, Herschel Walker at Georgia, Bo Jackson at Auburn, Doug Flutie at Boston College, and Archie Manning at Mississippi.

Another thing about him is that while he plays hard every game, you get the impression that he realizes that football is just a game, that his greatest devotion is to serve the Lord. I wouldn't be surprised if he eschewed an NFL career to become a missionary, and even less surprised if he was martyred because of his faith.

all of the things that he does are great. I'm glad that he's a Christian and does Mission stuff- that's wonderful.

But that said, what about all of the other college football players that do equally good things? Why don't they get more attention?

The media could take a guy like Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy and do the same thing that they have done with Tebow, yet they have chosen not to.

As far his congruency, I saw him taunting Georgia fans a couple of years ago after a TD. If this was just about any other college football player, he would have gotten a personal foul and the announcers would talk about how there was no place in the game for that. With Tebow, it was "Wow! Look at the enthusiasm that he has! He's showing those Georgia fans! And that's what the announcer said almost verbatim.

I understand why people like him, but I'm also calling it as I see it.
