I don't know if this has been talked about yet...

but if we sign Brunetti, will we yank Favre's scholarship? I would almost be certain that we would, but I would be interested to hear the thoughts of others about that.

That doesn't make sense. We would have Relf, Russell, and Brunetti. I don't think Favre is better than Brunetti, and would probably never play. Use that scholarship somewhere else, like maybe another offensive lineman. I don't think at this point we can sign too many offensive lineman, but we will have 3 serviceable QB's without Favre. I don't think QB is as much of a pressing need if we get Brunetti, so use that on another corner, or another OL, or another WR. I think it's a very similar situation as the Josh Hollingsworth one from last year. We were ok at the QB position with Lee, Relf, and Russell, and now if we have Relf, Russell, and Brunetti, I don't think Favre's services will be needed.

We're not going to steal Brunetti away. But if we did, we won't yank Favre's scholarship away. If he still wants to play here after we sign another QB, then he can still come. To take away his scholly because we signed another QB would be bad business, especially considering the coverage in the press we got when we offered him the scholarship.

However, if Mullen and staff think that Favre is good enough to get an offer, and they can get Brunetti as well, why not? Quarterback competition inevitably makes you better. I don't know what kind of confidence you guys have in Relf, but can he provide serious competition to Russell? Also, everybody and their brother knows that favre has committed to you guys because of your offer. What message would it send to coaches and parents of future prospects that as soon as someone better comes along, you no longer are good enough for us? At least giving the qbs a chance to compete and then saying Brunetti is better looks more legit. Then if favre is unhappy, he'll transfer to some D2 school.

he could make a terrific safety apparently. IMO what mullens if really doing is promising him a shot at qb knowing if he's surprised he wins and if not, he's got what is apparently a terrific athlete to play someplace else. but then he may end but being the next,...............well farve.

That would explain why we're still recruiting Brunetti. If we sign both Favre and Brunetti, that will give us 4 freshmen QBs next season (Russell & Stegall at redshirts and Favre and Brunetti as true). As thin as we were at QB when Mullen got here, that's too many to have to replace in 2014-2015. At least one, and maybe two, will need to either move to another position or transfer between now and then.

If we are using the bait and switch with Favre, I'm totally OK with it. It's smart recruiting and if done right the player will wind up going to the coaching staff to request the change. That's exactly what happened to a friend of mine who signed with LSU. They told him he could play QB when other schools were recruiting him as a DB. He didn't even make it all the way through his redshirt season before he went to the coaches and asked to move to DB.
