I don't know why the cowbell issue is getting so much attention....

no matter what they rule or say in Destin, nothing is going to change. They will never get cowbells out of DWS.Compromise, banning them, allowing them....it's all the same. Nothing the SEC does will change anything.<div>
</div><div>Maybe it is getting so much attention because there isn't much news to report. IDK.</div>

you're absolutely right. state fans will continue to bring 'em and ring 'em. the only way to marginally silence the bells will be with harsh financial penalties handed down from the SEC. which will result in more aggressive security checks at home games.

any fine serious enough to warrant really aggressive security checks will also result in a big, big story - which the SEC doesn't really want to have to deal with.

they should just shut the hell up and let us have our cowbells.

Everybody knows that's not going to happen. I think we brought some of this on ourself by having Mullen and Byrne repeatedly publicly encourage fans to bring cowbells to games. I'm sure that didn't sit too well with some of the other ADs. That's why I think the rest of the ADs will buy off on something like us committing to not encourage fans to bring cowbells, for Stricklin to include a reminder in his weekly e-mail that cowbells are not allowed, and some slight additional confiscations at the stadium entrances. I think those measures alone would probably reduce the number of cowbells enough to be noticed. And I think that will be OK with the rest of the ADs and this issue can go back to what is always has been in the past. They're not legal and MSU's official policy is that we're going to enforce the ban, but in reality it's not that hard to get your cowbells in if you really want to.

after Friday, on way or another. And people (mostly us MSU fans) want to know where our Administration stands and where does the SEC office stand. It's really not that big a deal in itself, I don't think Slive, other coaches, and most ADs really care- but having some sort of resolution would be nice. Getting fined on the other hand would suck- but at least we know our administration hada plan and fought a good battle.

there where just as many cowbell as there are now when our AD was against cowbells. Do you think Joe Statefan gives a **** if we get fined for them? I sure as hell don't. It is a waste of time to debate this at the SEC meetings.<div>
</div><div>The only thing to gain is good PR for being for or against them depending on which fanbase you are representing.</div>

just like if there is a compromise (which I think their will be). I'm talking about a shift in the dynamics of the situation, not how many cowbells actually enter the gates.

Side note: I'm fixin to start bringing mine again if the OM folks keep whining about it.
