From the handful of times I have seen Johnson play I thought he was the best player on the field. Big kid, not blazing speed but he'll be quick enough. It's my understanding that SR recruited him to play QB. Time will tell on that but I think he's enough of an athlete to develope into a QB. If not, he'll be a hell of a defensive player.

That's an impressive make up number. Did IMG have their entrance exam last week? Ok ok just kidding just kidding. Dean will laugh at that one. Rice has 7 or 8 now scheduled for make up. From a football stand point, heard Marist had a nice class. So another 8A runner-up could be in the making there.[/
Great turnout for SJF to Rice.
It wasn't 20, it was 14 or 15 but still good, BR always does well from SJF...they sent a lot of boys to Marist, was told 11 or 12.....couple kids switched from BR to Marist in the final hours....5 to MC and SR....couple to Larry.

Easily the best all around player in the South Side Catholic Division in the last 2 years. Played RB/LB at Christina, Jordan Lynchs younger brother, who is heading to MC,,was the QB, they dominated everyone. Johnson didn't make weight for the playoffs and had to play line and they still won the Ship. Upside, he plays hard, runs hard, motor never stops. Downside he's almost fully grown, he's not going to get much bigger, he looks like he's a junior in high school right now....I hear he wants to play QB...if Rita wants him at QB, go right ahead. He's never played QB, maybe that's how they got him to go there, it was between SR and MC but I think MC saw him on defense, and from seeing him play, I honestly think he will be an outstanding LB, I wouldn't even consider QB for him. But that's why I'm a poster on this page and not a coach! Great player though.

McCaravan:

Any names to watch for with incoming class besides Lynch? I am assuming he is at QB?
I heard the coaches are very pleased and excited about who they got coming in, they think they're going to have a great team. I didn't get names from the players outside the neighborhood but they got some great players from their usual recruiting places. Within the neighborhood, Lynch is great, they got a big linemen from Christina, couple of real big boys from SJF, Egan from Q of M....look out for this player, Fred Hill who played for Christ the King...he goes to Visitation School but played football for CK, he's gonna be a player, I see him at SS or RB. They'll be ready to play in August!

10 years ago Peter Balsam QB'd SR to a State Championship. He could have played TE, LB or FB on most teams in the state. The Johnson kid is supposed to be that type of player. He's also got several other players from that team going to school with him. The new offense at SR this year needs a player who can run the ball and take some hits as QB. If they are still playing it in four years. He may be suited to it.

Every blogger here should be an optimist. Every school has a kid who is their guy. A grade school stud may not even be playing football after his sophomore year. Remember these are only 13 and 14 year old kids. Lets not put it on them yet to win the super bowl.

Well said and very true. The majority of these kids may have seen their best days in grade school. Depends on how dedicated they are to the weight room, to advancing their game, and how they grow. As a parent, be realistic, and just have them enjoy this incredible experience, it will stay with them for a lifetime.

I don't know what the hell is going on at Cascia, but only taking 135 students will be upsetting many people.

Are all 246 students going to attend Cascia? No. But, shutting the door on students who truly do wish to attend the school is not going to sit well with a lot people.

And, since this a high school football board, how is this going to affect the program? I got to believe many good players will be turned away from it.

Unless year-by-year, they will allow more students, I don't see how SR can compete in the Blue.

In a letter from St Rita, it says "Our target range for the incoming freshman class is between 135 and 150, this number will ensure our long-term stability. Currently the school can handle more than that should more students qualify and wish to attend; if more qualify, they will be accepted."

I think this opens the opportunity to have far more than 135 if they are "qualified" students. We will see what happens this fall.

I got this over the phone last week. Since it was told to me in a private conversation I chose not to post it. I consider those making the decisions to be honorable. I think everything will be ok when all is said and done. Kudos to those who went out and worked their tails off filling the seats for the entrance test.

Hit them high hit them low.....

Working the phones, TL! Nice work. I just hope you are correct that when it's all said and done, that things will work out. I know there was a lot of backlash, though. I also heard good things about this potential football class. Curious to see.

+1. Now, this might be considered homer, tough-guy talk, but I did hear great things about this incoming class, especially a certain RB.

And to your second point, that's why we don't need a 135 cutoff; it's gradually getting there!

Yes, go Rita go! Mustang to the end! I wonder how CPA feels about this?

always liked CPA, even though he threatened to "punch me" once. I mean, there was one time, he threatened to "punch me." I think he probably would have punched me more than once.

reminds me of Ms White in Clue: He "threatened to kill me in public."

Thats a pretty simple answer
they promised free tuition if you achieved a certain score on their test.
people like free things. once you become a bargain barn its hard to come back
