Sexton & Rick played us like a damn fiddle. Why, for the first time in 12 years, is Rick's name JUST NOW popping up for another job? A time when he's on a boiling hot seat and there's a leadership vacuum in the athletic department. Rick & Sexton decided to float his name. Fortunately for them, Clemson bit and bit hard. For Rick, it was win-win. A new school with more money and safety for four more years or a raise and extension here. Either way, he's safe for a while and doesn't have to make one of his assistants commit seppuku (sp?). We are MState. NIT with Sidney, should he stay, here we come.

i was told here that he was leaving because the negative message board chatter put the clemson job over the top and he just had to go. our undeserving fanbase simply doesn't know when to keep its mouth shut.

under LT, wouldn't you agree?

In my mind, this was a Houston Nutt move - parlay interest from another school into an extension and raise at your current job. Who knows if he would have even taken the job, but he drops a couple notches in my book for pulling that stunt, and so does Keenum for caving in and giving him an extension. I don't know if we could have afforded losing him without an AD to handle the hiring process, but Stansbury's not bigger than the program. Seems like I've heard that before ....

and pretty damned funny too.

I guess we will never know what his true intentions are/were. But I will still say that feeling under-appreciated may have been the push he needed. You saw the Clemson fan's response to rugbdawg's good riddance posts...they really wanted him. When the nation looks at us, they don't think we should be as competetive in basketball as we have been/are.

that the pulse of the entire clemson fan base can be located on a message board. jesus man you don't really think that the stuff on a sports message board matters this much do you? yeah, we may be able to out folks at times with good rumors and we may also post some ridiculously funny daffodil killing pictures of a former MSU president but to think that people out there in the real world care all that much about message board fodder is a bit off. does it hit their radar? sure. that is part of the job. he would get positive and negative comments on message boards no matter the school he works for.

i simply cannot believe that rick stansbury would sit down with his agent and say "you know, i think it just might be worth seriously looking at other opportunities if they are worthy because i can't take any more nasty comments about my motionless offense by Coach34 and Fishwater."

isn't it much more plausible that rick would be willing to leave since there could be some big donor alumni who aren't happy anymore with the results rather than a bunch of anonymous people on a message board bashing him? couldn't he possibly be distracted by articles in the press concerning our ability to get the job done? maybe he has considered that all of the positive press from the Kentucky game was his ticket out of here? who knows, but all of those reasons are much more plausible than "Fishwater made fun of me." FISHWATER. <----- say it out loud to hear how ridiculous this sounds. "Yeah Meo, fishwater is making fun of me again. I just can't take it."

Do you think part of the case used against giving him a raise or telling him produce or else would be a statement like "this is how the fanbase feels..."? If you had to gauge the feelings of a fanbase, a message board would be a good start. Especially this one, almost all State fans I know read/post here. If you had to gauge the feeling of this message board towards Stans would you say it is positive? We as active participants know that it probably is, but the negative posts far outweigh the good. A select few make sure that there is constantly an anti-Stans thread on page one everyday all year long. So not only does it affect him by reading it, but it affects him by others reading it including his players and the people that cut his paycheck. I'm not saying that people shouldn't post their thoughts and assessments of his coaching ability on here, but it in itself is borderline fanatical.

It also has the affect, which 34&co are looking for, of polarizing even more people.

i wouldn't start with the message boards at all. it would be the easy route but the one with the most room for error. just go to swan lake and you would think that Rick has won several national titles.

we will have to agree to disagree. you believe that message boards are highly important in the eyes of the athletic department and i believe they consist of a bunch of guys who are at work goofing off and waiting for the weekend to arrive.

We are already one day closer to the weekend now too...was fun

I'm not too much of a last word freak but...I don't even consider Swan lake worthy of being considered a message board. I would say Sixpack and BDJ would be your only viable MSU sources. I guess I kind of shoot my own theory down in that regard though. If someone isn't capable of recognizing and filtering the vocal minority here, they wouldn't recognized the articificially pumped sunshine over there either. Maybe we balance each other out.

And regardless of how important you think you are, you are not. There were numerous reasons to not leave. Thank God he saw it. He only needs one more year to have full state retirement and also he likes where he is. Now, if you had enough guts to get away from your sexual fantasy with him and go talk to him then you might gain a lot of insight. Of course, sick puppies like you will never admit you are wrong about anything and this board fits your agenda. You preached for years he never had another job offer, now you come up with some sick reason why the job offercame out now. Clemson had a much better educational situation for Stansbury's kids and I'm sure they used that. Thank God he listened to folks like Keenum, Byrne , and Donovan instead of nuts like you and your 5 or 6 loons. We'll never get another coach like himthat lives and dies MSU basketball 24 hours a day. If you had those qualities you might have succeeded yourself in coaching but we all know you were a joke in a joke of a league. Get over it, he is still here and thank God he is.

Coach is probably exhausted from the excitement today. Amazing how a loser Jr High and High school coach is considered an expert by some on here.
