I hope we win out but do not like the idea of playing Alabama in the sec championship. I know people are going to dump on this but when we go to play the championship, I want uk to be a team that has a chance. Otherwise, I think it will be not as effective. Thoughts?

The same thought has crossed my mind. But how cool would a trip to Catlanta in December be? I suppose not as cool if we suffer a beatdown!

I share those same feelings... It's a catch 22 for sure...

Not that you care, but from Tennessee's perspective I think getting thumped by Alabama again does absolutely nothing to help the program.

Of Tennessee's 4 losses prior to the bowl game, 2 would be to Bama, 1 to a top 10 A&M team on the road in double overtime, and 1 really bad loss to USC.

9-4 is a good year, but the perception would be disappointment especially with the taste of another Alabama thumping in everyone's mouth.

Really hoping Auburn can upset Alabama somehow. IMO this is the best Alabama team that Saban has had and it isn't even close. A healthy Tennessee team wouldn't beat them, much less the MASH unit we currently employ.

Unfortunately, college football is a perception driven entity and the media or the recruiting trail give little credit for who your losses come against.

If you're playing, you have a chance. I get where you're coming from and understand about not wanting to be embarrassed but the Cats didn't do too badly down in Tuscaloosa and they're playing even better now.

With all due respect...this is shear craziness, do to think Mizzou fans regret winning the east two years in a row? It is great for everything about your program!

Winning the east, regardless of how we back into it, would be monumental for the program. It doesn't matter much if we get there and get throttled mercilessly, just being there in the first place is an enormous step forward for UK Football. So I personally don't care if we play Bama. Just get there.

I'd agree with that and add that it would blow "fan" expectations through the roof, thus making anything less than a division win a reason to fire up the "fire the coach/staff" crowd.

Edited to add that I would be thrilled, and it wouldn't change my expectations in the least.

Even if we get throttled by Bama in the SEC Championship game, it would open up a LOT of doors on the recruiting trail.

Would be a HUGE boost for the program. Perception of this pgm would be significantly improved.

Yes, even it was with a lot of "SEC East is awful" type talk. We'd be the best of that "awful".

Sure, we'd get blown out. But you want the ability to tell recruits, "Hey, we made the SEC championship in year 4."

Exactly. Take it and shake the hell out of it! The spin will be the truth... young, overmatched up and coming East champs fall to "The Machine". Regardless, we are identified as having arrived in some sense.

Yeah, those back-to-back appearances in the SECC game did wonders for Missouri's recruiting.

If we make it that for then why believe we get beat that bad ? I think it would at least be closer then the first game.. If we beat Tenn.. I would be happy for now. then maybe revisit this discussion..

Correct. And a lot of the talking heads would be chattering about a much better UK team to watch next year.

lets not overlook the coaching change maybe having some impact here.

Let's not overlook that they are heading for a 2-10 season. It takes more than a coaching change to reach that level of despair - as all of the Stoops apologists can attest.

You had my ear when you said it might be Sabans best Bama team,, lost me when you said it isn't even close!

If the CATS made it to the title game it would raise a lot of eyebrows around the country and would do nothing but help our recruiting effort, regardless of the results of that game. It's more tangible evidence of progress, and taking a major step forward.

I understand the UT perspective as expressed above as being different, they already are considered an upper tier SEC program so nothing more to be gained but a lot to lose if they get embarrassed. UK's in a totally different point as an evolving program.

UT is no longer considered an upper tier SEC program. Haven't been one for a long time.

That's the thing that gets lost in year four. Every team that UK has beaten this year is rebuilding - as are Florida and Georgia.

In my view its fools gold that will result in another ill advised extension.

UK won't be in the SEC championship game. Perhaps, this might be the case in the future. Let's enjoy the opportunity to play in a bowl and look forward to a deep, experienced team in 2017 and 2018. The best is yet to come.

Internal bs killed Mizzou..a multi millionaires spoiled brat son did Mizzou in. When we were there we talked to a bunch of them tailgating and needless to say they are pissed at the administration

Missouri never cracked the top 25 in recruiting even in the class immediately after the back-to-back SECLeast championships and the before the protests that occurred in 2015.

My point is that people are stating as fact that an SECE appearance would be a shot in the arm for UK football. Not necessarily. Before Florida won it last on the first Saturday in November, the last five division champions we SC, UGA, UGA, Mizzou, and Mizzou. All of those teams have new coaches this year and are in rebuilding mode.

This thinking is nearly as flawed as the OP. We are effectively rebuilding as well. You cannot pretend we are at some sort of peak. We are not. Will it be fool's gold if we beat everyone in the East next year, split with West, and march on Atlanta?

Back dooring into the east championship only to get laughed at by the talking heads and demolished by Alabama is the thought process. I'd rather be taken seriously when the time comes.
