This thinking is nearly as flawed as the OP. We are effectively rebuilding as well. You cannot pretend we are at some sort of peak. We are not. Will it be fool's gold if we beat everyone in the East next year, split with West, and march on Atlanta?

It's not flawed thinking at all. It's a fact.

Back dooring into the east championship only to get laughed at by the talking heads and demolished by Alabama is the thought process. I'd rather be taken seriously when the time comes.

Yeah right.

I can see all the talking heads trashing UK for being demolished by the number #1 team in the country and not one of them proclaiming the amazing resurgence of a program that has never sniffed the top of the division, much less won it, since the conference was divided...

If you were Rollie Massimino's AD I guess you would have told him to not suit up and play Georgetown in 1985...

Your opinion here seems a bit cowardly and very much misguided.

If Florida waltzed into the SEC Championship game undefeated and then was rolled by Bama, you would hear what you are saying.

But Kentucky? After losing to USM and the awful start? No bowl game in years?

It wouldn't have mattered what the score would have been, CMS would be COY and we would be media darlings.

Just my opinion, but I don't think you could be anymore wrong.

Count me in with the crowd that wants to win ANYTHING, ANYTIME. Jeez. We get demolished at least once or twice every season anyway. Who cares if it happens again? Winning the East would be amazing.

LOL, i think you're crazy. If you're UK, you take the East any time, anywhere, and under any circumstances. No questions asked.

Yeah I think the possibility of some really great recruiting would overshine the bad defeat that we might have.

Sorry I'm looking for a program, not a, "hey remember when we won the east" and then never was heard from again? No fan in their right mind would want to not win the east, but the point of the pen was to say that I'd rather build into a real sec east contender than to win by the default of the other team.
The thinking is not flawed.

I hope we win out but do not like the idea of playing Alabama in the sec championship. I know people are going to dump on this but when we go to play the championship, I want uk to be a team that has a chance. Otherwise, I think it will be not as effective. Thoughts?

You do realize that when UK wins east it will always likely be Alabama that we will have to play.

Here's where I'll agree with the OP . . .

before the Georgia game, I felt like it would be pretty okay for us if we won out (beating UGA and UT), but Florida still took the East.

If we had gone 8-4(6-2) and carried momentum into a bowl game that we won, I wouldn't be too disappointed.

It's not as if winning the East is a necessary program builder (see: Missouri).

That said, had we gotten there with a 6-2 record in the East, we would have been the feel good story and gotten a lot of attention that could have helped recruiting.

If we get to 5-3, and make it (especially if we lose to Louisville along the way), I'm not sure that we are going to get a lot of positive attention. The focus, instead, will likely be on how weak the SEC East is.

First of all... Mizzou's problems are result of the spoiled brat generation... Secondly there is absolutely zero and I mean nothing that could be a negative consequence of Kentucky winning the East right now... It would be nothing but a positive for the program going forward

what is a fact?!? first you seem to say there's no benefit to being in SEC title game, then you do a 180 and say the east teams that have gone recently all have new coaches and are rebuilding. you have yet to show why being in the game would be a bad thing recruiting wise or otherwise.

Woby, I get your point. But many teams in every sport back in to playoffs and championship games every year.

I too want a consistent winner, not just one that beats teams at their worst. However, we need a full stable of good players and a lucked-in division crown this year would definitley help with recruiting those type of players.

The fact I stated UK's schedule this year is full of rebuilding teams. I then presented another fact. That back-to-back SECE titles did nothing to help Mizzou's recruiting.

Try and keep up.
