Croom's full explanation of going for it on 4th and 15: "Hey, nine out of ten times I probably wouldn't have done that. I was probably - I was trying to make something happen. I was concerned that we may not get the ball back. We had decent field position. I said 'Hey, if we take a shot here and we get it, we had a chance to make it.' We didn't make it. But right there, 9 out of 10 times, if I do it by the book, by the way I feel about certain situations, I probably wouldn't have done that. But I felt like I had to make - sometimes, hey, you go in the game, you go with your gut instead of your head. And that's what I did that time. I felt like i had to make something happen. Whether it's right or wrong, hey, you know, if it worked it worked. If it didn't, it didn't." Also: "I really think about those things before I go into the game, because I try not to do things on emotion. Like I planned, there was no question going into the game, I told the offense, I told Woody, there were certain yardages on the field, there was no question I was going to go for it on fourth and 1 every time. If it was from 6 to 7, there was a range on the field I was going to go for it even on fourth down every time because I knew we couldn't hit the field goal and I wasn't taking a chance on punting the ball into the end zone. That one, I had said before the play if it was less than 7, we're going for it. We already had another call on 4th and 7. When we didn't get it, I said 'I'm going anwyay.' That was just my gut instinct. I felt like we've got to try something. Because the game's about to run out on us now. And whether it's right or wrong, hey, anybody can try to judge that. But sometimes in games I'm going to do what I feel like I have to do. And even though you think about those things and you try to be logical about everything going into the game and playing for every situation, there's also situations in games where you have to play with your gut instinct. And I felt like I had to go for it."

Coach Croom, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this message board is now dumber for having reading it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

If anyone doesn't want to read the whole thing. I'll sum it up and paraphrase.

"I can't handle the pressures that are associated with being a head coach in the SEC. This caused me to **** the bed on Saturday night." - Croom

Edit: grammar mistake.

His explanation reads like somebody who knows he screwed up, but figures if he starts rambling on and on, hopefully something that would make his boneheaded decision make sense would come out.</p>

This may be Germans, but the commentators were speaking of their pregame meeting with Croom and brought that they had asked whether he would ever consider using the spread offense. Croom's response was something along the lines of over my dead body. Nothing like being open to innovation and improvements in strategy.

Is that really what he said?

I would think he should say, "looking back we probably should have punted, and if I had to do it over again, I would."

That would be too easy, actually admit you made a mistake and take responsibility for you actions.
He would rather blame a 20 year old player, than blame himself..

That just makes too much sense....

Damn we have a *#!*@%# dumb *** for a head coach
