Tennessee on YouTube. I guess I'm to young to remember the east side being the home side. I also don't remember the field house being so dinky.

The East side was the home side when I was growing up and in college during the mid 80s . The track was around the field and the cheerleaders were on the track between the Bulldogs and the student section. I don't remember when the track was removed.

I went to about every Starkville game in the 80s. I don't recall a track, ever.

We moved our sideline to the east for a few years under Felker. It was because a rule was passed not allowing students behind the visitors bench. Since our students were 50 yard line to goal. The remedy was to move the visiting bench to the west side. Then a few years later, Jackie moved back to the west side line. So we split the student section to last two sections on south and north ends of the east side. So the students weren't directly behind the visitor. I remember well.... I had season tickets in section R for a numbers of years in the early 90s.

Then late 90s we made the student section from 50 to goal again but took away the 15 rows or so from R and north.

T thought there was a track around the field at one point. Maroon/reddish rubber covered. Maybe it was the 70s. I grew up on campus and sold cokes at the games starting when I was about 10.

Now that I think about it. I worked for the athletic grounds crew around 82ish. My first couple of days we picked up concrete chunks after the forms were removed along the new road from the Hump to Hwy 82. The new track was there then. Soon after we finished the road work we started turning the cow pasture by the track into football practice fields.

I talking about the bottom rows. We removed from the student section and made those regular seating. To stay in compliance of the rule. In the 87 video, the Band used most of those seats.

But yeah, those top 4 rows were removed with the east side expansion. That was some Judge Smells ((LT)cheap *** bs. Cheap because of the design that didn't allow club seating to be high enough to see over standing fans below. But it wasn't necessary to remove 4 rows but Smells didn't want the caddies anywhere near his paying members.

Funny you mention that game.

My son moved to MSU today. As we were cleaning out an old box for him to use for the move, I found my two ticket stubs to that very game.

While your remarks maybe true regarding the student seating, Coach Felker moved the home bench back to the east side because that is the way Coach Tyler had it from 1973-1978. We were on the east side as long as he was the coach 1986-1990. As for the track, I don't recall the year it was taken out but I remember it well.

Beyond looking at the radical changes/additions that have been made to the stadium since then, why would you subject yourself to watching that 38-10 thrashing again?

You are correct about the team on the east side due only to Rocky moving it back due to nostalgia. The cinder track was removed and re-purposed as the warning track at Dudy Noble
