I talked to someone who has been at the South Farm practices, and he said "I don't see Montrell breaking into the rotation much this year. The coaches are always on him about something, and he can't pass block for ****."
I thought this was interesting, because I would have bet you $500 that Conner would get a ton of carries this year (based on watching the spring game)

he also said that the coaches seem to be really high on Favre and spend a lot of time with him like he may actually play this year.

He can still fill that role, you don't have to be a great pass blocker to smash the ball up the gut on 3rd and 1.

last spring, Montrell always had noticeably the hardest time in pass blocking drills against LBs. I'm guessing he'll get better.

Yes, LSU recruited him as an LB. I think his speed was and is the issue. He came to State b/c we were going to give him a shot a RB. He looks the part, but may lack the speed and burst to make an impact in the SEC. I see Nicholas Parker as the same type of player.

His mental toughness and competitive nature is as strong as I have seen in a number of years. I think a redshirt for him is 50/50 at worst.

you only play Farvuh as a true freshman if he is noticeably better than your back-up in Russell. If he isnt, or they are about the same- you let him RS for the growth and maturity while still maintaining 4 years of eligibility. And you only break that RS if both QB's get hurt.

You are 100% right under normal circumstances. But in our case we still don't have a certified quality backup (and Russell may be it) as our QB depth is not what it will be under Mullen. I'm just pointing out that Favuh may not be your typical freshman and it may turn out to be hard to keep him off the field some this year.

But Patdog is right, he really needs to redshirt and I hope things work out so that he does. He is going to be a factor in whoever QB's at State for the next 4-5 years.
