If it keeps Bob in the fold, you name Tom the GM of Iowa wrestling. One of Tom’s responsibilities will include fundraising.

As a side-gig, Tom can also raise funds for the HWC.

Bob is not the future of Iowa wrestling. If anything, the Hawks have regressed since the day he declared the playing field was level.

The easy money has led to lazy recruiting and the infusion of too many kids who don't fit the culture.

Tom Brands is a good coach, but if you're going in a different direction, go all in. Hire a young, energetic coach and give him the reins.

If Bob wants to be supportive, fine, but Iowa wrestling has too much tradition and potential to tether itself to one mega donor.

Who are these people saying that Morninstar is a great recruiter? What are his big recruiting wins? Taylor has just about gotten better recruits in his first year than Morningstar has in the totality of his stint at Iowa. Terry was the reason for SL. SL was the reason for AD. Maybe we can give Bassett as a win for Moningstar, but that fell thru.
I dont know of anybody that has said he is a great recruiter..in a vacuum. He is the best recruiter on that staff as far as building relationships. The defense of him is that it would be even worse without him. And since the head guys are not bringing anyone else in...

I’m afraid I disagree on the , “culture,” part. TnT may already be putting culture ahead of athletic ability, imo.

Here is a GR8 new thread that EVERYONE will love because there is NO wrong answers just an open discussion in regards to the HAWKS.

From the most wild and crazy ideas TWOOOO the more realistic. How do YOU see IOWA getting back on top? I mean there must be 1/2 dozen threads calling for TnT to be done??? Is this realistic is one question? Where do YOU turn to fill their shoes?

AGAIN NO wrong answers, lets have some open discussions. BEST case scenario if you want? Craziest ideas, ANYTHING GOES!!!

I SIR Iron Hawk will of course start us off-

1st) I do not see a AWESOME candidate for Head coach to replace Tom IF we are being honest!?!? MANY names are thrown out, such as DAKE for example. Once you dig a little deeper though. It appears he and most others are not available or even looking??? Also, what kind of money would we need to draw in a TOP guy? With TAYLOR reported to be getting a cool MIL. Would it even make sense to use that kind of money on a head coach?

2nd) It has been said that BOB's $$$$ goes if TnT go!?!?!? <<<THIS alone is a B1G deal!!!!

3rd) Also reported is REVENUE SHARING is starting/ has started???? F*** st is said to be getting a cool 1.2 MIL. ? I would believe IOWA should be getting at least the same if not more, but have not seen anything???

4) a B1G question I have is. Are TnT flexible in their coaching rolls? Meaning are they open to having NEW blood come in and at least bring NEW ideas to the table? It always seems that IOWA is lagging behind in, TRAINING, TECHNIQUES, STRATEGIES , RECRUITING etc....

ALL that being said, I don't see a REALISTIC replacement at this time? Unless a complete melt down takes place these next few weeks, I would rather see IOWA BUILD from what is there as long as TnT are open to some changes.

MANY times it has been discussed, moving TERRY to head coach of the HWC? I ASSuME that it must be a $$$$ issue as for why it has not been done? Is it possible with the REVENUE SHARING to use that money to either get this done, or to replace BOB's $$$$ and use his cash to get it done???

That would free up one spot where i would try to get KemDawg. Many like KemDawg, I always thought he was a great technician, obviously being an IOWA guy, this does not seem to be a far reach.

MORNINGSTAR is said to be a GR8 recruiter and I would like to see a position opened for him to be HEAD RECRUITER/ COACH. IF IOWA could add that position? That would add another spot where MAYBE you can look for a B1Gger "reach"/ name? Someone like NOLF for example?

The longer term goal would be to bring in SUPERMAN LEE especially if he can go out an get the Olympic GOLD!!!!
Pretty simple. Fire Cael Sanderson from Penn State. Kick Penn State out of college wrestling as restitution for having to endure their reign of terror on the sport. And rename Iowa the supreme leader of college wrestling at least until they have more national championships than Oklahoma State. Then and only then, they can try again to bring parity to the sport.

Since the thread mentioned being open to everything, has everyone thought of the downfalls a potential young big name could have? People have been throwing out names(I get it, its a hypothetical thread on a message board), but they've been playing plug and play with all the other names that would make up their staff. These guys are alphas, and are going to surround themselves with their people. Could work for sure, but we've seen what it can look like if you just have like minded people on your staff afraid to speak up. Especially Dake and JB. They each have big names, but a small circle.

Also, what's more important. The product being displayed on the mat, or the tradition? The wrestling development and recruiting may get better, but they are going to want their own mark on the program. DT was good because he realized the tradition at OK State. Even then, you can see a shift in the environment already. I personally like it, but some people were upset over the environment at GIA during the Iowa dual. Most of these young potential coaches from outside the program are not going to be as concerned about maintaining the legacy as much as starting their own. I mentioned before that some people would be upset if a new guy came in and wanted to do something as small as changing the singlet.

Sorry for the rambling post. Honestly, just genuinely curious about how you die hard fans felt about that.

No changes as far as head coach goes but article does seem to make it sound as if assistant changes could happen. Maybe its time to bring in the future head coach as an assistant for a couple years

Not it didn't. The question was asked and Tom said he would evaluate at the end of the years as he always does.

Funny how a RETARD could call someone dumb after proving you either can't read or you don't know what HWC is TWOOOOO times!!!!

WHAT is this^^^^^ Is this a mommies basement thing?

Problem is, without his $$$$ and with someone posting that Wrestling is getting NO $$$$ from Revenue sharing????? ( maybe because of BOB's $$$??) You/WE/IOWA is SHEEEEttttt outa luck!!!!
Did you pronounce "RETARD" correctly while typing?

JB is in Iowa City today. He is making an appearance at HWA practice today. Timing seems perfect for an interview. Interview and see the facilities while the staff is gone at Big Tens. He could accept the position and make announcement following the NCAA tournament. Speculation on my part but the timing makes too much sense.

The question is would Jordan accept an assistant head coach/HC in waiting position?

lmao. Did beth call and ask your advice on it?
Clorby said he's been contacted by D1 head coaches for advice and suggestions, so it would be Brands he's counseled. This is good news for Clorby. He gets another year of counseling and licking Brands boots.

While another year of Brands is pure entertainment for everyone not named Iowa, I feel bad for the Iowa fans who desire a much needed change. Nolf Burroughs would've been cool. They haven't been tainted by the Brands system.

Hell no. That idea is wack. Seriously.
Curious why you say that. May not ever happen, but why you so negative on the idea? JB hate Brands? I mean, he is supposedly at HWC today. If he was offered a sweet AC job with clear plan for taking over in 3 years, not a bad gig. Maybe Tom would in fact give him full latitude to lead training for a few years, and Terry to HWC? Options here that I think he'd at least consider. Hope they at least kick the tires hard.

Or alternatively, HWC lead for a few years, then college HC when Tom retires. Just hoping SOMETHING changes this offseason to provide a little hope/spark.

I think it would have to be with the college program because he would have to be getting HC money. I am skeptical this would work in any form but I definitely don’t think it could work longer than 1 season. Anything longer than that isn’t realistic.

Brands would have to cede control of the training environment significantly and I just don’t see it happening

if he accepted that we would be in good shape.. gives him a chance to be a hawk for a couple of years before he takes over.
Bull shite… This isn’t an “ordinary,” situation with TnT. Nip it in the bud…

I don’t believe TnT would be capable of that and it just doesn’t make sense. Rip the frigging bandaid off. It’s time.

Beth knows a change needs to happen. But does it make more sense financially to hold on to Brands for another year to soften the buyout burden. Combine that with not having a clear obvious replacement and it makes sense for her to punt.

Its just not a fun place to be right now as an Iowa fan given the current product and the realization it's just a matter of time. Tough situation for her too given how passionate we are.

You aren't bringing in anyone new fancy assistant because the minute that coach tries to teach something Brands doesn't like it will be met with full resistance. Any good assistant coach worth a darn wont sign up for that. We don't need more yes men on the staff.

No clue if any change will happen, but alot of people on here talking in absolutes as if they really know. No way Tom would ever do X......No way JB or Nolf would be an assistant for a year or 2 first, or be HWC coach if Brands is still here.....all alpha males and won't work together... always....no way... Think there are legitimate options here to make it work, but we'll see if any happen. And honestly, if JB, Nolf, Dake, or any other options are that ego driven and 'alpha males', I don't want them even if Brands is gone. Big egos lack leadership and humility, and just as likely to be the next 'stubborn neanderthal' coach folks are whining about in a handful of years. But until I see otherwise, not buying that some of these guys can't find a way to work well together for a couple years if needed and pay is right.
